| Lives for gear | Accessing Plug-Ins Installed on a Separate Hard Drive I am running leopard off of an external drive with Pro Tools 8. I have lots of plug-ins installed on my system drive running tiger, and I would like to access them through pro tools 8. Is there a way of having pro tools look for those files without having to re-install them on the new volume? Thanks guys (and gals) |

once the Terminal is up enter ln path/to/the/plug/you/wanna/use pathtoTDMfolder/FullNameofPlug the path/to/the/plug/you/wanna/use could be MacHD/Library/blablablabla the pathtoTDMfolder/FullNameofPlug is the path to you TDM Plug-in folder and YES there is a SPACE between the two paths. What this does is to create a virtual copy, which cannot be told apart from the original. YOU could also simply, via the Finder, copy the plugs from the tiger partition to the TDM folder of your choice I hope this helps

| Brian, it may be that you will get an error stating that it wont work across two independent drive/volumes. That is with the ln command. I wasnt thinking. instead of ln - write ln -s blablablablablablabla you may wanna have a look here Basic UNIX COmmand Your whole OS X is nothing but a good looking interface running on UNIX. SO MUCH you can do with that wonderful Terminal ![]()

| for the sake of a couple of hours of installing (at worst) you're setting yourself up for a whole heap of problems. Half your plugins are likely to have different versions for tiger and leopard, some may need specific libraries installed as well as the actual plugin file. I just don't get why you'd want to comprimise stability for the sake of a short amount of time sorting things out? |
