Possible to move my Itunes folder to an external drive without losing all my info??

My itunes is taking up a lot of real estate on my mac pro's 120 HD and I need the space for romplers etc.. Can I move the whole library to an external drive without losing all the info inside iTunes?
I dont want to lose my playlists etc..

for sure.

In your itunes folder there is a file "itunes library" that contains all your playlists etc..
Make sure you keep that.
Also once you move the songs you need to reassign where itunes looks for your music folder location.

in itunes
preferences:advanced is where you set that to the new music folder location.

Well I just tried that and now when I click on a track within iTunes it tells me it can't find it..
I've changed the directory under preferences and I kept the library in it's original location..

Any ideas as to why this doesnt work??
I'm pretty sure I tried this a few years ago with the the same result..
