Firewire/PCI adaptor card ok for audio interface?

Hi guys

I recently bought an RME Fireface believing that my motherboard had a firewire connection. I then found out, when proceeding to connect it, that it didn't.

So I bought a Firewire/PCI adaptor card to allow me to connect. It all seems to work fine, and certainly sounds better than the M-audio card I was using before.

Does anybody know if it's fine to have it set up like this or if it's unadvisable? In which case i'd buy a new motherboard. As i said, it sounds fine to me, but i'm not sure i'd know if the operation was being affected slightly.

Any knowledge appreciated.

Matt

This is fine, and in most cases is prefered. A lot of motherboards use inferior firewire chipsets, so getting acard with (ideally) a Texas Instruments chipset is a huge step forward in terms of stability.
