I dunno how old this thread is... hopefully not too old for more replies. Anyhow, I have the SSD 2.0 kits, and I have used them for some hard rock tunes. I haven't used the 3.0 or OWD kits before, but I love the drum sounds that Ethan Johns gets on pretty much any of his stuff... Especially Ryan Adams' "Heartbreaker" on Come Pick Me Up. His Kings of Leon drums on Aha Shake Heartbreak are cool too. At least I think so. Also, Ray Lamontagne's album "Trouble" Would either of these accomplish "that" sound easily? The drums on those records just sound stellar to me. And timeless. I have access to tons of gear and ok rooms, but I can't seem to get the Ethan Johns mojo from the kit. I know part of it's in the writing, but his rooms sound really special to me as well. Nothing I can ever accomplish in my facilities with the mics and kits and hands I have access to, but I would have a HUGE market of young musicians flocking to me for business if I could get these kinds of drums. Err... well huge... Where I'm from. |

Oooo. Wait. I'm geeking out, and getting excited to hear both libraries. But does anyone know if the sample libraries could also sound like the drums off of say... Wilco's "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot?" There are lots of different drum sounds on that album. But... anyhow. I just geek out about this stuff.

I'm pretty picky too. I like stuff to sound natural sometimes, and sometimes not. I dunno. I just love making sounds. Anyhow. Asking for Yankee Hotel Foxtrot may be a bit much. Maybe start with "Sky Blue Sky" and write a terrific song first? If only. If only. I know it's all in the artist's hands, but if I only had their room. That board. I'm rambling... But anyhow, those drums are the ones I'm after half the time. Hard rock drums have their place too though. Thrice drums. Paramore's sounds off "Riot". If I had "Riot" drums... and a good guitar player/singer... I could write and record a hit in a week. Kidding. Wow. Humble. Okay... maybe I couldn't write a hit. But I'd certainly feel that rush when I first throw it in my car, and it sounds like a million bucks! |
