| Lives for gear | Clone G5 system drive ? I have a 250 gig sytem drive in my new (to me) mac G5. I want to use that as my audio drive, and install a Western digital Raptor 10k rpm 36 gig drive as my system drive as the new system drive. Is my best bet to ....... install the new drive, reformat it ( journaled) use carbon copy cloner to clone the 250 gb drive to the 36 gb drive, and then reformat the audio drive 250 gb disk as non-journalled ? This my best bet ?? Thanks !! ( p.s. please give me the most secure method of cloning this hard drive because I have NO SYSTEM DISCS !! ) ![]() |

| Normally you should have system disk, every mac comes with them. Besides that you can use Carbon Copy Cloner. It can create complete bootable backups. Bombich Software: Carbon Copy Cloner |

| Lives for gear | No way , dude ! No !!!! The raptor, I already had from an older pc that crapped out on me... so I figured I'd use it as my system drive on the G5. As I recall, when it was installed in my pc, it's really fast access times and 78 MB per second sustained transfer rate ran circles around my other drives which were 7200 rpm. It may not be a huge difference in the G5, but I guess my impatience at boot up time will decrease by.... 10 seconds.. ![]() |

| Lives for gear | I think it's gonna work ! Western Digital says on their support site that this drive drivehttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136054 ( the WD360ADFD) will not work in the G5..... BUT I've got the first generation...the older one with the 8 meg cache..... So I think it will work fine !! I'm goin for it ! also..thanks for the tip on the carbon copy cloner... I just cloned the system drive on my g4, and it works great !! ![]() |
