Thread Starter  | Clone G5 system drive ? I have a 250 gig sytem drive in my new (to me) mac G5. I want to use that as my audio drive, and install a Western digital Raptor 10k rpm 36 gig drive as my system drive as the new system drive. Is my best bet to ....... install the new drive, reformat it ( journaled) use carbon copy cloner to clone the 250 gb drive to the 36 gb drive, and then reformat the audio drive 250 gb disk as non-journalled ? This my best bet ?? Thanks !! ( p.s. please give me the most secure method of cloning this hard drive because I have NO SYSTEM DISCS !! )  |

| Normally you should have system disk, every mac comes with them. Besides that you can use Carbon Copy Cloner. It can create complete bootable backups. Bombich Software: Carbon Copy Cloner |

Thread Starter | I think it's gonna work ! Western Digital says on their support site that this drive drivehttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136054 ( the WD360ADFD) will not work in the G5..... BUT I've got the first generation...the older one with the 8 meg cache..... So I think it will work fine !! I'm goin for it ! also..thanks for the tip on the carbon copy cloner... I just cloned the system drive on my g4, and it works great !!  |
