Any alternatives to Waves Q10?

Hi Folks,

I need an 8-10 band EQ that can make extremely narrow-Q, surgical cuts ala the Waves Q10. This is mostly for film / post work where I need to get rid of annoying resonances without damaging too much of anything else. Any recommendations highly appreciated, thanks.

Check out Flux EpureII.
Has extreme narrow Q.
Sounds good too.

Flux Epure yes, also works in multichannel and M/S. Useful for film / post production.

Flux:: sound and picture development

Sound quality is the same as other similar digital equalizers though.

PSP Neon (or Neon HR). 8 bands, can be used for very narrow Q cuts, sounds great.

Hi, this has been a very useful thread for me as I too am looking for an unlimited or 10 band parametric EQ alternative to waves Q10 - as I don't want to use stupid iLok!

Only problem I am having is I am using a MAC, I would prefer to find something free such as ReaEQ - does anyone know any Apple compatible??

thanks in advance.

p.s: hello! I am a newbie

Izotope Alloy is great. EQ controls are very similar to Q10, though it only does up to 8 bands. The sound is also very transparent, in a good way, not as sterile sounding as Q10.

Plus it has some other great features as well.

Voxengo GlissEQ is my recommendation, variable number of bands, very narrow and wide Q on demand, cheap, cross platform 64 bit, has the best analyser I have found, lets you zoom in to adjust the frequency you are after and many many more features

FabFilter Pro-Q

Linear phase and you can have up to 24 bands with narrow Q value.

Plus lovely GUI

Great suggestions here for sure. Be sure to use the linear phase option if you want the narrowest, most accurate cut possible. In this respect, DMG Audio EQuality is also fantastic and has even slightly more flexible shelving filters compared to Pro-Q, but I LOVE the Fabfilter interface so much!!

I must admit that for a non linear-phase EQ, GlissEQ still has much narrower Q than Fabfilter, EQuality and a few more, but as soon as you add linear phase into the mix, it's a different story

Good luck

Wrll actually, I am pertty sure all plugins mentioned in this thread are cross platform. If you want to prove which EQ can perform the narrowest bell cut, give this a try

1) Add an audio track with a long audio clip
2) Duplicate that track and invert the phase of the copy so they cancel out
3) Add your EQ to one of the tracks and perform a narrow cut ot boost
4) The most narrow curve will produce the closest sound to a sine wave

Once again, linear phase is the way to go if you want precision

Cheers
