| Gear maniac | PC Laptop for 002 (firewire)?
Anyone want to reccomend a good PC laptop to use with a Digidesign 002? It needs firewire built in, as those pcmcia cards sometimes aren't too chummy with Digidesign hardware. Thanks, Aaron |

Read the Laptop thread carefully at the DUC. That, I think, is an even more reliable source than Digi's recommended configurations. I have a Dell 8600 and have the "100% CPU usage" problem. The 002R tells Task Manager it's using 100% of the CPU 100% of the time, even if the meters in ProTools read close to zero. The result is a hot chip and fans that run all the time. Not good for a system I thought would be silent. Then there are the buffer under runs, followed by the buffer over runs. It's like it can't decide if wants to under or over run. Also doesn't play nice with the network card or the wireless card. Be very, very careful. |
