Thread Starter | Multi-threading Plugins
Hi, Just built a very nice quad core 8GB ram 1 TB computer. However, running Cubase SX3 it seems that the plugins are only running on one core. Is there a program that multi-threads plug-ins to use all 4 cores? Or a plug-in to multi-thread? Thanks. |

The applications need to be written multi-threaded you can add threading externally. The OS will spread processes around to multiple cores some.

What os ? A 64bit one I presume? SX3 was built in a time where quad weren't the trend so it is handling over 2 cores not as well as newer soft, but it should work. Herwig

SX3 should use all cores. However there are situations where spreading the CPU load won't work such as if you use only one track with multiple plugins in serial. I suspect a user error somewhere. I believe you need to set it to "Use multiple cores" somewhere. |

Browsing through cubase.net, it seems people are seeing multiple cores utilized by SX 3. Software applications built using multiple threads to do work in parallel will benefit from the most from multi-core. That being said, I would imagine Cubase has been a multi-threaded application for quite some time considering how much stuff it does in parallel (i.e. multiple tracks processing multiple plugin chains, drawing a bunch of pretty stuff on the screen, etc). Further, multiple processor systems have been around for a long time. It is just that consumers now are getting this as the "normal" case in their systems with multi-core. How many tracks are you running to test the multicore? Try duplicating the track a "crap load" (that is a technical term) of times and see if you see utilization on the multiple cores. Make sure you are generating a lot of load for your test. Report back! Cheers, Lumen

Hey, We just purchased Nuendo 4 and it utilizes all cores. |
