pro tools LE issue..using PT 8

when open the app everything loads up fine and it lets me open ONE session..but if i try to open another one or create a new session the system quits...no error message..no anything the program just shuts down.

i get the "windows has to shut down" message could it be the sessions? i dont think its my drive because its working properly has anyone else had this problem?

i start making new sessions and opening them on my COMPUTERS harddrives and i got NO crashes..it was smooth..so that means its my external..is it not set at the right volume?? im not sure what to do

it lets me open a few sessions from my external then it crashes again..im at a lost for what to do

nothing works guys i deleted the databases AND prefs folders...uninstalled PT and REinstalled it..the external drive seems fine on every other app..i open up PT and it can open ONE or TWO session or can create ONE or TWO sessions and then it crashes...this makes no sense at all this did not occur last week i have no idea is causing this..ive spend countless hours today and yesterday trying to fix this nothing works

somebody please help me.

-Nikko

Is your external HD set be a record volume? I had similar problems with pt7.1 when my external changed to be a transfer only.

Have you tried loading up an old Protools 7.## session and doing a save as or save copy in ? Also, you have to follow the instructions for upgrading to Protools 8 per DIGI.

Did yo UNINSTALL your 7.## version using the 7.## installer disc?

Other than that, Id recommend posting at the DUC for more help

ive posted at the DUC..though the tech supports people dont post on weekends.

This problem occured before i got PT 8 it was completely random i was hoping to PT8 would fix this issues.

what i did not do was use the disc to uninstall 7 but i did remove EVERYTHING of 7 completely..still acting up im not sure what the issue is.

I had a problem like this when I was using an external drive with an esata card. The drivers were crap and would put the drive to sleep. The world would blow up if I tried to access the drive once it had spun down. Maybe your drive is going to sleep?

doesnt sound like a PT issue. could be a vista issue. make sure all ur vista optimizations are still there. I have heard about similar weirdness from vista/pt users b4 they jumped back to XP

There are some issues in my PT 8 at least. It has crashed on me a few times already for no good reason. And makes pops and crackle noises in the session.

I should have stay at 7.4/OS X tiger until the bugs got worked out 6 months down the road..urggh.. Leopard seems slower than Tiger as well. I thought the leopard was faster than the tiger?

I am just going to add onto these PT 8 posts for those that are contemplating on getting it:

I just got mine a couple days ago MAINLY because I needed to do a feature that PT 7 did not have. I needed to create a vocal stutter effect and manipulate the vocal waves.

Installing it I did not realize that you need OSX 10.5.5 (Leopard) or later. Luckily I had a disc of Leopard in a closet. Next, when I first launched PT an "unexpected error" occurred, go figure. Version 8 is not able to run your digirewire plugin app (for Reason, etc..) So I had to pull that out of my plugins folder so PT can actually launch. Along with that, my Waves Diamond Bundle 5.0 does not work with the new version (I'm now hearing rumors that only v6 and above will work). So now I am not able to rewire Reason into PT, my Diamond Bundle is not compatible and I am now an assload short of plugins.

Another thing, maybe its me..but it seems the new version of PT uses alot more CPU power than the older versions, I have sessions open that I created in v7.3, and I am watching the System Usage Meter in PT and the CPU is sky-rocketing which causes my sessions to freeze a lot. With my older versions it worked just fine, I have the same buffer settings and everything set the way it was.

I'll give Digidesign an applause on making the graphics nicer, the higher track count, the ability to use double the plugins and of course the elastic time stretch capabilities, all that is great. But I do believe there are a lot of bugs that need to be worked out before this version is running smoothly.

I 100% agree with you - I should have waited. Mine does the same, pops and crackles, and freezes.

PT 8 while cool and a great step forward for Digidesign is not ready for prime time. I'm sure they will fix it but they should have gotten it together before putting it out.

not one single issue here. Three LE's on macbook pros, and one HD on G5. No issues at all.

Try loading Stylus RMX, SD 2.0 or EZ Drummer combos. Doesn't work on Mac Pro, Mac Book Pro, Inel Mac Mini or G52.7 all with clean Leopard installs.

Not an issue here also. Works like charm. Rock solid even on laptops.

to the op: 6GB of ram on a 32bit system? Are you sure that your machine is qualified for pro tools? Have you checked the compatibility grid?

No. All paid for. I crashed the program in under a minute. Reminds me of 4.0 release. I know they'll work it out just like they always do. Shame on me forloading it up so early on. I violated my own cardinal rule!
