Does Ilok work these days ?

Hi,

I had an Ilok a few years back. It completely unhinged my system. Bullied the Vst folders and created general havoc all around.

Now I hear stories about how nice it works.

I have a Syncrosoft dongle installed. I have a UAD 2 card, a Powercore card and a Liquid mix attached to my PC.

I am running win Xp sp3.

Anyone think I am heading for trouble fitting an Ilok into this ?
Any known incompatibilities with certain motherboards or chipsets etc ??

Never had one single problem with my iLok. Not the hardware, not the software, not the website.

I have some $10,000 worth of software on it and it's just working like it should, and always have.

Mac/Logic Pro.

iLok on Mac always works fine. Syncrosoft (Arturia/ VSL) is for me regularly hell on earth.

That was helpful!

I can't comment on an XP system but I've had ZERO problems running 2 iloks on my mac/PTHD rig. Assuming it doesn't get lost/stolen/broken, it's a great system.

The problem with the Pc is becuase their are so many variables its a nightmare for software developers.XP itself can be made to behave but I always found that I was constantly having to update drivers.

The only problem iLok still has these days is that it doesn't protect the software the developers are paying Pace to protect.

You're thinking of the iLok reset crack? Yeah, that sucks.

However I know a couple of people who had massive problems on their computers because of using these cracks.

I also refuse to offer any type of support to people with cracked plug-ins.

I don't know what it is called, but it basically means the iLok doesn't work for the purpose the service was sold to the developers for.

Hopefully the latest Syncrosoft products will remain uncracked so that companies can move into that one. My heart does sink a bit when I see someones machine with all the plugins I have paid for not only running for free, but not being appreciated for what they are. Especially when its surrounded with nice hardware that has been bought with the money that honest guys paid to the software companies.

I don't think a lot of people realise that if enough people cracked audio software then there would be no more quality stuff for us all to enjoy in the future. I also think though that software companies need to support copy protection that works.

Also no problems on a PC XP (SP3) machine. Never had an issue with the iLok site either using Firefox.

The only issue I had was buying plugins while ilok site was down. Wasn't a problem, the licenses got deposited, but I couldn't sync right away.

Other than that, flawless - 5 iloks on 4 systems.

No issues here at all with 2 iLOK, 2 syncrosoft, 1 MLP, 2 Rainbow & one random other one (SSL ProConvert's odd little dongle). The 2 iLOK are in the same pair off the main system & all the rest are on a hub.
You might - assuming you had applied the IEEE1394 Hotfix with XP SP2 before installing SP3 - have issues with the SIDspeed getting reset to 100 again on the FW buss though. I never did the SP3 thing (no point) so my LM is still happy.

No problem. Only Waves had some problems with their previous versions prior 5 (the authorizer makes much trouble).

Working as a copy protection? No. All software with iLok was cracked. The only working copy protection this days is Syncrosoft.

No props here running 2 iLoks and one synchrosoft in the same cheap "trust" passive usb hub, connected to one of my mac-keyboard's USB ports (the other port is occupied by a mighty mouse) - The keyboard then being connected to my mac book pro.

Send a message via AIM to not like this
This morning I received an email from iLok indicating they have renewed my "zero downtime" coverage for 3 of my iloks and charged me $90. Only problem is, I only have one iLok on my account and I have never signed up for zero downtime coverage!

...factor this in with the time that there was an "error" with their sync software and it deleted all of my system settings a few years ago and I'm not too happy with iLok. This is on a Mac, btw.

I've had MAJOR problems with iLok on my XP-machine. Bluescreen with a hint to the iLok driver every time I tried to start plugins that used it. For about two years, I couldn't use my Motu Mach5 (or later, RNDigital plugins). Major suck! However, with some of the more recent upgrades of the drivers, they seem solved, and it now runs fine on my PC (which had Pace and MOTU collectively scratiching their heads), so if it works on my nightmare-machine, it probably works... =)

That said. I will most likely never ever buy another plugin demanding a dongle to run (unless support, handling of dongle loss/theft and so on get SERIOUSLY better). There is something REALLY wrong with the fact that I have to pay for and put up with troubles/issues (and risk of loss, theft and so on) that the crack user doesn't have to. Why not give the paying customer a BETTER user experience for a change?
