OS X update 10.5.6, Logic Pro relevant

Since there isn't a Logic Pro update yet, these core audio fixes are interesting for Logic Pro users, I think:

- Core Audio and AU component version mismatch fix
- Multiple instances of MatrixReverb in separate threads fix
- Core Audio compressor threshold fix
- Switching default audio device’s output stream is now immediate
- More channels for Core Audio 3D mixer
- Programmatically created (public) aggregate device now plays correctly
- Audio Channel Layouts and Unique ID fix
- Changing the composition of an aggregate device audio dropout fix
- kAudioSubDevicePropertyDriftCompensation property can now be set on an aggregate device
- Renaming aggregate devices now propagate device name changes to all applications
- AudioFileOpenURL memory management fix
- CoreAudio AudioFileWritePackets file creation fix
- audioqueue compatibility fixes
- audio file stream compatibility fixes
- ExtAudioFileCreateNew memory management fix
- ADTS files now supports kAudioFilePropertyPacketSizeUpperBound
- Core Audio performance fixes

Interestingly the official Apple Support document for the 10.5.6 update doesn't mention these fixes at all:
About the Mac OS X 10.5.6 Update

Anyone with more info?

God no, I'm in the middle of several projects in the studio :-) After X-Mas perhaps. People I've spoken say there's no trouble in this update including 3rd party software compatibility, just fixes and even better stability. But better safe than sorry.

I'l update at home now (where I also have Logic Pro installed for writing articles).

Will be interesting to see if some of the CoreMidiServer gremlins are gone too... its frequent tendency to hang was rather annoying.

If Apple doesn't mention these, where did this list of changes come from?

Thanks
Tom

this is all lovely and everything but...

Any word if they're planning to release 8.1 within the next decade?

Thanks.
Yep that would be even more lovely - 8.1
I'm convinced to take the plunge to 10.5.6

Cheers

I did the plunge yesterday on my home setup... and hell broke lose... Random overload errors with 2 tracks, almost no plugins. Prob's with saving the projects. Logic just cut out. So back to 10.5.5 for me.
I wil wait for the big 8.1 update that i think comes when Snow OSX coming out.

With an update to Garage Band out now, I do think something is on the close
horizon in the next 1-2 months. Grant it Snow Leopard does sound promising
I'd rather not upgrade to a whole new OSX version right now myself.

as regarding 10.5.6 I too am in the middle of a couple projects and though I've
downloaded the combo update, I'm gonna sit on it for now and wait until the
coast is clear. it does look to be somewhat advantageous to Logic 8.02 though.

wow.. thanks for the reports! I was going to do it, but changed my mind. 10.5.5 is pretty stable and I'm ALWAYS in the middle of projects, so it sounds it would be wiser and safer to hold off.

it's fine for me, I'm on a 2.4 Macbook Pro with Logic 8.02 recording to the internal drive and haven't had a problem, though I just track and mix (24ish tracks) and I use lots of auxes/sends

yeah, I'm rock solid at 10.5.5.

Probably won't upgrade till I feel some pain.

Nevermind, that was a new Euphonix driver... 10.5.6 is okay with Logic here now.

has anyone with a 2008 mac pro & a duende had issues? perhaps I'll start a new thread, but I can't play any old songs back in logic at all. disaster. I think it corresponds to this update. I wouldn't normally have updated, but my wireless sucks in leopard and I thought this might help.

hating computers right now!
