PT on your miko? ... you cant insert pci cards in the miko, am I wrong? so you gonna use PT LE and deal with the lack of ADC?

but wait you use your Miko jus to make music or do you use it as for recording and mixing also?

Have you tried Ableton with your Miko?

(I must confess that that piece of gear looks like a fancy PC to me but the touch screen looks sweet and I was thinking: Ableton + touch sreen might be pretty nice).

I'm sorry that's a lot of questions but I'm really wondering.

Lol so I guess u are French too ouai ca va!!
I have a Lightbridge (M-Audio) on my Miko linked with a Lynx Aurora 16 and a 36 input analog console.
I run PT on the Miko with Mellowmuse that way...no latency
I use it to record all my sessions as well so I can just take the miko with me to LA or Europe where we use different studios and have all the sessions ready at all time plus I can still add changes to the beats or make new ones on the go.
I havn't tried Abelton but Reaper is decent. I'm sick of the crashing though!! when recording audio it's fine but with Vsti plugs it's a nightmare.
I'm also tired of having to export EVERYTHING from reaper into wave files and mix it with the vocal sessions in PT. I would rather do EVERYTHING in PT. I hope 8 is all that it could be.
That said the Touch screen is AWSOME!!!!...I use it so much I find myself touching the screen of my macbook sometimes trying to click something....ooppps it doesn't work on this one

Ok, thanks man. Nice setup.

yea I never tried to use my VIz in reaper cause I'm used to ableton.

I'm way too broke for the neko (or miko) but I'm thinking about adding a touch screen to my Ableton rig.

I'm a longtime Cubase user, like from before Cubase audio... and Reaper is the real deal on the audio side.

No kidding. Midi has a ways to go but on the audio side for the normal things most people do everyday, tracking / editing / mixing... it's ... well... unique. I'm seriously considering using it instead of Cubase 4 for audio projects.

I'll probably never stop using Cubase for midi but... it may get unseated for straight away audio.

If the developers keep going at this current pace - and don't laugh ... I'm dead serious - Reaper could very well end up being easily arguably the best native daw around for audio in a relatively short time.

Of course there are people who feel that way already and it's subjective but I mean *easily* a major choice above some other established daws for audio work.

I'm not kidding nor am I delusional. My guess is somewhere around version 4 ... if they keep going. It's not missing much and it's not even at version 3 yet... and they keep adding unique and useful features faster than anything I've ever seen.

It's sick. I've had a non-commercial license for about a year. It's not even close to the same daw it was a year ago.

Sick.

I've seen you get some flak from the fanbois at the Cockos forum for your unbiased opinions and I know you know Cubase inside out, so what is it for you that gives Reaper advantages over Cubase on the audio side?

I'm really interested in this, because a lot of times Reaper users just mention great things about Reaper that are in every other DAW that they haven't learned enough about to realise they are there.

woot for reaper

+1 Reaper user and lover here. I can't think of one thing that Reaper won't do that PT does better. Maybe I would still use the midi in cubase/nuendo, but def not PT.

Pretty soon it will be a Reaper world. There will be Reaper credit cards. Reaper hats. Reaper cars. Reaper gym shorts. Reaper swimming pools. Reaper checking accounts. Reaper RAM. Reaper motherboards. Reaper processors. Reaper screwdrivers. Reaper vodka. Reaper condoms and Reaper hard drives.

And the U.S. Government will be totally controlled by Reaper. So you better get used to it now cuz it's totally unavoidable.

I couldn't resist....

A Reaper fanboy here also.

Just sold my PT-dongle (MBox1), reaper all the way from now on.

I've made my first LP with reaper, and latest EP also, and I've got attention from EMI and Sony Bmg about those records. Yeah, I'm no pro but hell yeah you can do serious stuff with reaper if you want to.

Reaper is the best sounding native DAW. Just play back the same stereo file in a few different DAWs and Reaper and you'll hear it. And yes, some people have tested identical mixes with equivalent pan laws and Reaper does not null out with other DAWs.

Yet another Nuendo to Reaper convert here.

But it's all a matter of taste.

I've received a little Logic training in school and used it some times besides that. Can't stand it. Everything is backward and illogical, ironically enough.

I've been forced to use ProTools many times, including 3 years of school. Used the 2" for every session where I could choose myself, but ProTools was mandatory for many things. Hate it like the plague. Always have. Especially editing, which everyone seems to love(?) Hate the way it behaves and how you always have to dig out stuff from that messy pool. Four different modes of editing which all other DAWs I know do fine without having to choose between.

Nuendo was the first DAW I felt comfortable with and when I first tried Reaper that was even better.

I used Reaper on Linux with Wineasio and on Windows. Unbeatable for the routing capabilities and of course for the price
I'm not a big fan of the missing context menu and not only Midi needs some improvements.

I like the workflow in Cubase more and since C4 the routing becomes an overhaul, I forget my idea to change to Reaper.
From time to time I update to the newest version of Reaper to see whats new. But IMHO Reaper can't hold a candle to Cubase4.

I hope this was a joke? Playing back a file involves no processing - it will sound IDENTICAL in any DAW unless there is a seriously large bug which I very much doubt.

How on earth did you do a nulling test playing back a file in different DAWs anyway????

Don't fear the Reaper.
In all honesty. I d/l a version of Reaper about a year ago and bought a license. I was impressed with it's loyal fanbase following and superlative support. I felt it deserved my support.

I owned Sonar 6 and only had just gotten it a few months or so before.
It cost a lot more and I was already learning to use it.
Here is where the honesty part comes in. I have never bothered to learn

Reaper or even record and mix in it. Not for any distaste of it but I was happy enough with S6 and in all fairness had a substantial financial investment involved in it and really didn't want to lay it to waste.

Sonar is up to version 8 now and the initial release was nothing short of a lemon until the fairly recent update release which from a few reports seem to of handled the fact it was near unusable for some initially. Now that is a "bodgy" business practice and will damage Cakewalk's reputation and future prosperity.

Alright what version is the current Reaper equal to in terms of feature set etc.
Because, as soon as it is decidedly better than Sonar 6 I'll upgrade to Reaper then as my go to DAW.

Hey Mikael!

How goes it man?

It is true. Just sold my copy of Nuendo 4 actually.

Will most likely get a cheap version of Cubase to keep session compatibility... and believe it or not.... might actually buy PT8 as well for that reason too. It looks pretty cool and according to sources we should actually be able to use our controllers with it. (fingers crossed).

Take it easy man,

Matt

Hey Matt, I'm in europe right now actually about to go have diner with Phil tomorrow
Reaper works great for audio bot not for midi for me. I already have PT 7.4 installed on my miko and I will get PT8 as soon as I'm back in the US. It will be great to produce record and mix all in 1 soft!!!...and in one machine!! I hope the controllers will map that would be AWSOME!!!
By the way I juts produced SAVAGE's new single ( the rapper on the song Swing) called WILD OUT with baby bash and it was entirley produced and recorded on the MIKO (produced in reaper , recorded in PT) check it out the album is coming out December 23rd under Universal records.
the video should be out soon too
Hope u are good Matt TTYL
