What comp plug for HD TDM gets the closest to the sound of the Distressor?

What comp plug for HD TDM gets the closest to the sound/sounds of the Distressor?

Anyone have a idea about this?

Digi Smack? TL Aggro? a combination of the UA comps?

I think I would rather buy a plug then the harware unit. Money will will go alot further in software comp instances as oppessed to 1 Hardware unit.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

KC

I already asked this question over on the DUC so please don't be offended for me asking in both places.

None.

I guess McDSP compressorbank is about as good as you can get.... But, don't expect distressor like results from any plugin.

I may on occasion talk about some of the products I am a dealer for in my posts.. and that's OK! I sell them because I like them. Not vice versa. It's more fun to talk about things you know and love, then things you don't.

Try blockfish via the fxexpansion rtas converter thing.

It has a useful distortion feature.

I've used Blockfish. Your right it works really well for a little dirt.
But I was looking for something TDM.

I'm getting a new CPU so I think I will be able to use RTAS to VST rapped plug better soon.

Anyone try TL Aggro comp?

Thanks,

KC

"Smack" certainly seems to be an attempt at putting the feature-set of the Distressor into a plugin. The distortion modes, the filterable sidechain, etc etc ..

While it's certainly not useless, I definitely prefer my actual Distressors, and that's not out of some luddite sense of plugin-bigotry.. I simply mean that if you like Distressors, you might not be satisfied with merely something that you want to sound like them.

Bud Light has many of the same features as Stella Artois, but --

Man... 1:20AM and I almost went into a full-blown beer-metaphor.

Get some distressors..

Yes Chris is right and it's one of the less interesting belgian Beer (I believe that is actually the sense of Alpha statement)

and that, to my knowledge says a lot about the best ones

No pluggins will ever bring you close to the distressor. The distressor emulates a lot of different hardware units adding a personal flavor to them. It would be interesting to know what settings you really like in the distressor to be able to pick the pluggins that would get you as close as possible to your goal.

That said, UA plugs will get you closer to LA2 and LN1176 than any other plugs, and they are one of the units emulated by the distressor. It won't be the same thing though

Comparisons aside, I think TL Aggro delivers
crunch like a hard driven old FET thumbsup

I don't own it, but sure will.

OT:
Is it just me; I really like UA's cpu baby 1176 SE !?

Thanks guy's.

I do want to get crunch as well the 1176 sound for vox etc....

Maybe if I got the UA's and the Aggro that would cover most of my bases.

I already have Smack! and it works for somethings.

I know that nothing will compare to real deal but maybe I can get the flavor and still have it be less filling.

I can't believe I just said that!

Thanks,

KC

Hey Ken... I just noticed your location... I do offer some gear rental, including Distressors. If you want to try them in session sometime, feel free to rent mine and see what you think.

PM me if you're interested!

Inspired by your location, here's an OT:

I remember driving around in Clearwater, trying to get back to a Ramada.
What a "twilight zoned" experience: I couldn't find it!!!
After an hour I figured out that I'd driven around in a nearly identical block.

I love Norway. I had a great time over there.

I did a tour with Ronnie James Dio for about 4 weeks over there.
It was the Monsters of the Millennium tour.
We went all threw the Netherlands and ended up in Estonia.

Had a great time when I wasn't working.

What a beautiful place. A little cold for me. I never got lost because I was always walking around or riding on the bus.

Good times,

KC
