i've had it with duende :/

after failing to make the firewire duende mini work reliably (plugins would randomly stop producing any audio on a project reload, or go to demo mode with zero seconds left although having been purchased), and after numerous emails travelling to and fro between oxford and prague, the albeit friendly, yet oh so completely clueless customer support offered to exchange my unit for the pcie version. (it appears ssl, after more than two years, haven't been able to replicate the scenario happening to all these users). i had actually had high hopes with the pcie (which arrived within three days to prague via fedex thumbsup). right now, some 10hours into a session i started with the freshly installed pcie, some of the plugins (namely the xEQ) again went into demo mode and thus stopped working. this unit made me appreaciate my native plugins, thanks to duende not working. but it did cost me :( can i have my money back pleeeeze?

yes - i send it back in to SSL if i decide to keep the PCIe they sent in. do email them, they reply fast and try to be helpful, but sadly they don't know much about the issue themselves, so good luck. i have to say the pcie loads plugins much faster and the only flawed plugin has been xEQ so far (that can change though). so the pcie works out as the lesser evil in the current situation, but it still cannot be relied on in a professional situation because it's merely hit & miss. something i can tolerate in a free plugin but not in a dsp card. stike

alright, all of the plugins now go back to demo mode on the pcie. well done.

Oh dear I feel for SSL as it seems like a good sounding product. I am considering a PCIe myself but I wouldnt go near a Firewire...(what am I talking about SSL arent a fledgling company - they are a high end classic audio company and should be able to get this sorted!...)

My UAD has been flawless.....

However Id be interested in real world amounts of Duende success vs Fail because of course we generally hear about the fails on forums.....that is the way of the world...

I've had more problems with my UAD's than my Duende Mini.
I'm wondering if the majority of problematic Duende's are on PC's?
I'm on a Mac with Logic.

G5 1.6 single core (oddly enough) I mainly do mixing - most of the projects I get in
are between 24-50 tracks.
Between the native plugs I have & DSP cards I rarely max out my system.

calm down. the plugins are licensed specifically to the card/unit. so yeah, you need to get them to give you codes for the pci-e card. tell them what the auth thingy is, and they'll send you a code back. and it'll work fine

this happened after i successfully registered them with the codes they sent for the pcie (same scenario as with the mini with its respective codes received after purchasing the plugins). it's a common issue.

Lukas has been in pretty regular touch with our tech support team over quite a period. Unfortunately, despite many many attempts we have not been able to reproduce the specific issue he has been experiencing here at SSL HQ. As I'm sure you can imagine, it is pretty difficult for our developers to fix something that they cannot reproduce and examine...

Lukas, as always feel free to contact me as well as the direct contact you have with our support team if you need some further help.

I'm on a PC (+ 2x UAD1 cards). I had a problem at first where the software didn't seem to recognize the card. I solved by de-installing both my Duende and UAD-1 cards, then re-installing everything beginning with the Duende PCIe (+ X-Eq and Drumstrip). It runs for 2 months without a glitch now and I did some heavy sessions with it in the meantime.

Peter.

loved the sound of the duendo. Sold it after 1 year because it was not reliable. If SSL got this thing working its a no brainer.

Hi all.

Can anyone suggest a fix for the probelms experienced above, I recently bought the PCI-E Duende. The X-eq and Bus Comp now show up as expired when i try to load them into a project. the demo on X-eq ran out but I have the authorisation code - despite this it keeps telling me it is incorrect. I've tried in various compatible hosts and on different PCI-E slots. The Bus Comp is bundled as standard and should never 'expire'...

Tech support have been fast to date, but unable to find a fix I've now been told the best thing to do is wait for v3 drivers... If anyone has a fix please could you share. I've waited for v3, it hasn't arrived... and not sure i want to 'downgrade' the relative DSP power of my Duende to v3 until I need/can afford to upgrade to 64 channels.

Thanks

James

It must be very frustrating. All I can say is my experience with pcie on a quad G5 osx 10.5.6 is rock solid.
