i havent bought a uad2 yet...

off some test tones and eqing with the veq4 and the sv517 "Spectrally" i have the graphs damn near perfect.
BUT a 18db boost with veq4 @ 3.3k matches the sv517 at Bell I, 0.85Q and 13db boost... the match using Waves paz meter damn near perfect

I liked the uad1073 when i used it in the past but i want a 1084 b/c i like to cut 470/560 and 3.3/3.9 on most vocals. a small bell boost at 15k vs a shelf at 12k on the 1073...
if i get a uad2 i'll probably use the 88rs the most and cambridge or flux epure for surgical stuff.

Back to work matching the rest of the bands on the sv517 demo and the veq4

its still a 1073 vs an 84 though, but i just got the rocket compressor and ive had majortom for a while.

on the sonalksis note:
i "Spectrally" matched the veq4 and sv517
the 18k lpf on the the veq4 isn't 18k i see.. its more like 15k
placing lpf at 15k @12db matches perfectly

using a Q of 0.85 with the bell set at I i matched the eq points withing +/- .5db
the 82hz hpf is the same on the sv517 @12db roll off

i already love the sonalksis comp but i cant find anything to duplicate the sound of rvox.
Now if i can duplicate the sound of the uad la2a with the sv315MkII i'd be set LOL but maybe

The low-mid bell filter affects the +10khz region funnily (see attachment). Also in the middle filters the higher the frequency, the bigger the Q. I also measured the harmonics and noise with 1khz sine in analog mode (the distortion is larger with higher output but the relations between harmonics are about the same).

i use to have that vst analyzer.. cant seem to find it again so i used test tones and just used a real song.. i matched the sound damn well...

i got to use a Avedis Ma5/E27 combo about an hour ago and i love the 28K filter!!!
im trying to match its sound in the best way that i can vst wise but i cant find a eq that gets to 28k other than Voxengo HarmoniEq... it eats cpu power but sounds awesome.
any other eq vst wise that can get up to 28k for a DETAILING boost

Christian’s Blog ยป Measurement
I had to use it in the "parameter list" mode because the GUI wouldn't show and use keyboard in the program menus. Not too hard to figure out though.

nothing touches the neve 88-rs for me lately

the low end is just oh so perfect that i even find myself cutting lows before the plugin, and compensating with extra lows on the neve just to get more of its sound! the high end is also pure bliss. the ability to take off harsh highs and not lose the life of the sound. it's just the sound i was searching for, for so long..

I have a UAD card but I don't own any of the NEVE plugins. I've demoed the URS EQs for a couple of days and I must say the 1073 eq ("n-serie") which has now been replaced by the 1084 clone (still called "n-serie", however) sounds great. I've heard the UAD version can sound even better but having a Pro Tools HD rig at my studio I don't need/want to go down the "full-on-UAD" route. TDM works great for me and I must say the URS plugins are working great to get me out of Waves' "pay-to-breath" policy.

I use the Cambridge EQ for "surgical" situations, not much for "color" but I've tried to clone some EQs on the Cambridge and I got kinda close.. It's pretty pointless in my opinion, however..compared to how quick and easy (and sounding good!) it is to use eqs like the 1073/1084 or 88RS Channelstrips..or even the Classic Console Strip Pro. Using "oxford-like" eqs doesn't work for me, unless it's - again - a situation involving surgical equalization.

So yes, Cambridge-style+1084-style can get you long enough!
