As you learn more...

Is it just me, or as you learn more about it, records you thought sounded amazing soon become, in your mind, badly made?

For example, I used to think a band called The Accolade down the road from me had amazing recordings and that they were CD quality

MySpace.com - THE ACCOLADE - Bournemouth, UK - Rock / Pop / Blues - www.myspace.com/theaccolade

But now I listen back, the snare's too dry and flat, the vocals have no punch about them and the banjo in one of the songs is waay too loud.

You ever had this, where you started recording and thought some things were amazing, but as you learn more and more your opinion changes?

lol......I think you'll find you're entering into a phase where the listening to music becomes automatically analytical for the foreseeable and you will find when paying attention to what's actually happening on the recordings you listen to it's not always what you thought.........including not always as good as you thought......

The blessing is this: Once your mind/ear is attuned to 'picking apart' everything that comes your way there are only some recordings that resist this, namely the ones which have SO MUCH emotional strength that even when you TRY to analyse what's going on, it proves difficult, as you get swept away with listening and taking it in as emotion. Not too many of those I find, but ultimately these are the ones of interest. If it's easy to stay in 'analyse' mode, the thing hasn't got the required strength in my mind.

Everything else as it were tends to split wide open into components......sorry The bonus is you tend to only bother wanting to listen to stuff that really grabs you and after that silence outranks a lot of the other garbage.......
