Thread Starter | Logic Studio Stock VI's I saw a post early '08 asking about the quality of Logic Studio's VI's & Plugs but no one really talked about VI's other than how good the synths are. How is the brass, strings, percussion, etc.? If there is a lot of production quality instruments/sounds, this could be a big selling point for me (I'm not too happy with Cubase...too buggy). I've got Komplete 4 but am still lacking especially brass & strings. Thanks. Last edited by PaulInTheSticks; 17th November 2008 at 02:01 AM.. Reason: forgot something |

| I'd say the samples are "OK". If you look at it in the way that "for $500 you get all that great content" then it's a no-brainer. I have it, along with DP and PT ( mostly use DP). I've had Logic for a few years and upgraded to 8. I've spent the past month seriously using it on some personal songs. In doing so I'm exploring it's VIs and content. It's really hard to deny what a fantastic deal the whole thing is. Kind of dumb not to have it in your tool box. Now that I'm feeling comfortable (thanks to grooveboxmusic.com) I'll definitely break it out for some client stuff. I'm still missing DP's built in pitch correction, as I use that aaaaalllll the time, but I've found Logic to be more cpu efficient and have enjoyed it's different work environment. If you're just looking for better samples than I'd probably invest the money in more specialized libraries but if you want a ton of decent stuff then check out Logic 8!

| You can do a whole lot better IMO. Good for the price of course. |

| logics vis...ok here... es1 - easy to manipulate and make sounds that i hear in my head - i know what everything does, and how it all works- this works like my old vintade synths with knobs and sliders - like junos and korg polys es2 - sounds a little thinner to the es1 imo - but complex routing can be done - to make complex moving sounds that sync to the tempo- i dont know all the parameters because it is really complicated esp - great for harsh short synth stabs and pads - sounds amzing - not for leads! sculpture - amazing new sounds - so complicated i gave up trying to create new sounds on it - i just scan through the hundreds of preset sounds and fing something for my taste - glassy pads - to shiny bells to machine electricity to spaceship engine noises - amazing efm1 - i prefer my dx7 and of course the 1000's of synths that can be loaded and tweaked in the exs24 - so many sounds - its hard to not find what you are looking for these are the main things i use - i have tons of outboard synths - vintage and moderas - but i use mostly logics sounds - and if the song has a main synth part/parts, i run them through a neve 1073 and an outboard compressor to fatten the up and eq the ranges necessary --------- the only thing logic really lacks is an intuitive arpeggio - no synths have a built in arp - you have to make an arp object in the enviornment - and it is very basic |

| the Logic sample content is ok for sketching out demos but cant really compete with the thirdparty stuff that is available for Kontakt or the EXS. But since its basically free with your Logic purchase its a nobrainer. Sculpture is a great synth but not exactly easy to master especially when it comes to tuning over several octaves. I use the organ sometimes-its similiar to the B4 but i prefer the leslie sounds of the Logic one.
