Question iPhone Apps - How To...?

Is the only way to get Apps into an iPhone or iPod Touch via the Apple App Store?

There's a whole sub-culture of hacked iPhone apps that's been around longer than the app store.

Itunes may be a better solution in the long run than to have random 3rd party apps install who knows what on my phone. Plus everything for the phone is cataloged in one conveniant place so no browsing the interweb for hours looking for a particular app.

As far as I know hacking your iPhone isn't illegal. Not sure why the mods would have a problem with it.

Hacking the iPhone is not illegal. You bought the device and can do whatever you want with it. The distribution of copyrighted program code, for instance of the OS on the iPhone, would be illegal.
