Thread Starter | Import ProTools Session to Samp V9? I would like to know what would be the easiest way to import a ProTools session into Samplitude V9. One of the bands I play with recorded a performance, the guy that recorded us used ProTools. We recorded it early this summer and the guy still has never mixed and mastered it. The leader of the band is upset to say the least, I suggested for him to just get the sessions files from the guy and we could mix them on my system. I would really appreciate any suggestions fellow gearslutz! Thanks, rjacobsen |

| You have a few choices.... Consolidate regions in PT and drop .wav files into Samp. Import to timestamped position on each track and you have a raw session to start. Takes a bit of time, but works fine... Use SSL ProConvert and go directly from PT to Samp. Generates an edl that you can open into Samp. Doesn't import perfectly, but it is close. You may need to tweak some fade shapes and pans, but otherwise, automation and files transfer great. --Ben |

Thread Starter | Thanks gearslutz for the suggestions, I certainly appreciate it. Couldn't I have the guy that recorded the session export the session as an EDL and then I could import into Samp? I know you can do this with Samplitude and import it into ProTools, according to the manual. Thanks, rjacobsen |

| You need an edl conversion program for them to be able to read each other... I do this every day here using ProConvert. It really is about the only tool for doing it right off... As for the audiosutie gain thing... It only works if the person that started the mixes and did the work did no audio suite gain before. If you are grabbing files, you need to make sure you've got the right ones. Ultimately, the SSL program is the best way. All other ways are work-arounds that will require you to do some pretty close examining of the files in the session to make sure you get the right ones. --Ben |

Thread Starter | Thank you much fifthcircle, I will check the program out. Actually the sessions are only 8 tracks. He recorded us for 3 sets, I believe he made a session for each set. Thanks, rjacobsen |

Thread Starter | I just checked out the SSL ProConvert, it cost $699. I don't believe that is an option for us. We just want to pick the best tunes and make a Live CD. We don't want to spend that kind of money just for this CD. I believe I could just get the audio files and import them into a Samplitude project fairly easy. I also have friends that have ProTools, I can probably mix it on one of there systems if need be. Thanks, rjacobsen |

| If you have Pro Tools you can buy DigiTranslator for it - save as OMF and Samp can open that afaik with no problems. I'm seeing DigiTranslator sell for about 120 as an ILok asset on Ebay if money is tight. If this is not an option I'm reasonably sure some studio would be willing to do it for not too much money. Hell you could even try asking around here perhaps under the WTB posting. Good luck. |

| Actually, Samplitude won't open OMF files directly. It still requires ProConvert. A few years ago, I invested in an MBox and Cuibono-Soft EDL Convert Pro (which got bought out by SSL). Most of my clients send in their sessions in Pro Tools format. That investment paid for itself in the first job. |

It doesn't sound like in the OP's case the money is there. i agree with you that ProConvert is the best way but the OP could try using the Toolkit I mentioned with EDLtranslate from here: ap-sound.de ยป downloads Or go to a studio that can do it for him/her. | |

Thread Starter | Thank you very much for the suggestions gearslutz, I certainly appreciate it. I hadn't checked this thread for about a week, so I'm glad some more people chimed in to try and help. Since then, I found out the guy who recorded us is going to mix it sometime next week, we've heard that before though! It's only 8 tracks per session and I believe if I were to do it, I would just have him consolidate each track and I can just import them. They are all raw files anyway, very little if any editing has been done. Once again I want to thank all of you who have made suggestions, gearslutz is such GREAT SITE!!!!! rjacobsen |
