Cool Help with sequencer Ram or Graphic problem.

I was wondering if any one could shed some light or share their experiences at all.

Basically I'm running Logic on a P4 1.8, with 728k Ram. During playback and programming within Logic, the audio stops and I'm given a generic asio error. This leads me to believe it's a Ram issue as I do run alot of Vst's.

However I've also noticed that during playback at normal zoom level, as soon as it changes the screen to the next part of the track, the audio stops. I've experiemented and when I zoom right out so the entire song is on the screen graphically, it plays through fine about 99% of the time. So this to me sounds like it could be a graphic issue. I have used the onboard chip, and then changed to a cheapish PCI card and has made no difference.

Any help would be appreciated, cheers guys

from a computer engineering standpoint it could be a number of things.
would help if you posted your confign in full. including what you have in pci slots , number of hard drives ? sound card brand ? using XP ?
and stats on how many tracks /plug ins you have when this anomoly occurs ?
the way to nail it is process of elimination.
if - for example other music software does not do this then it might be something to do with your application version. if other users have not had this problem then its to do with your pc confign.
i'll try and help on the hardware side but need to know your confign in detail.peace.

Cool

Thanx manning1 for your assistance.

P4 1.8 728 Ram. X2 Drives. West Dig 80 gig main drive running XP and all Apps. Second Seagate Drive with all audio files. Nothing in PCI slots. Soundcard Motu 828MKii via firewire. Using onboard graphics chip atm on a intel board.

Logic 5.5. Triggering percussion from vst sampler. Tracks use half vst half audio most of the time. Usually trigger midi from hardware synths via Motu lite interface during composing before bouncing to wav into Logic. Average channels per song is 15-20 usually utilizing Logic plugins Fat EQ, Effects, Comp/Limit etc.

Hope this helps, cheers

jason.
i'm not sure how much this is going to help.
but it looks like youve done all the good things like 2 drives, the pci approach not filling up pci slots etc. only thing i can think of is that maybe one possibility is that if your using lots of graphics intensive stuff that this is taking a ton of resources.
and taking those pc resources from other processes needed by win for example.
if were me i would try and find a friends more powerfull machine and see if your logic projects work fine on another pc. ie..up the processing power.
maybe a 1 gig or more machine running over 2ghz.
another possibilty is maybe your processor just cant keep up.
plug ins consume a lot of resources obviously. this can be a problem on slower p4's.
sorry i cant help much further.
i would try rendering some of the plug in real time processes to tracks and see if it helps as well.

Cool

Thanks Manning1. I was just wondering if anyone else had seen my issue before. I wanted to explore all options before upgrading. Thanks again.
