Thread Starter | iLok license transfers for PT- anyone with experience?
Bought HD system S/H and have the iLok with original account name and password. I already have another iLok that I use for my other PT HD system in another room. Let's see if I got this right, I have ONE account with one user name, but can have multiple iLoks, each with separate passwords? I can move licenses b/n my iloks in my account (but can't copy), right? OK, so how do I get licenses from someone else's account to mine? Is there a fee? How do I pay it? Is there a way around having to pay a fee for every single license? Can I use the iLok key given to me or is it better to purchase a new one? What's the 7 day "grace" period all about? Is it just me, or is this whole thing way more complicated than it should be?? |

Here are a couple of bullet points that summarize how it works:
An alternative might be to leave the licenses associated with the old iLok and account, and have them give you the userid and password, which you change afterwards. A potential hangup occurs if you need to use your old licenses and the new ones at the same time. I don't know if you can use two iLoks at the same time.

you handle all the transfers through ilok.com. Log into the account you're transferring from, and transfer to your own account, paying the fee in the process. you can use multiple iloks on one rig at the same time. right now I've got 2 iloks on my system, registered to different accounts. you can also transfer an empty ilok from one account to another at no charge.

the way to transfer multiple licences to a different account for free is: 1)buy a NEW ilok 2)synch it to your account and transfer all assets to it that you are selling 3)click the remove ilok from account button(available for first 7 days only) 4)synch it to the new owners account within 7 days. Done. costs you the price of the ilok only. |

Anyone tried this? Does it work or will it wipe the old licenses when you sync it to the new account? |

It has worked for me a few times, however it did not work with my waves plug-ins. Waves does not allow transfer of their assets without their permisssion. I hate dfegadwaves. I just got an email from another gslut asking me to delete this thread. I think it is better to leave it in the hopes that more people can benefit from this info. |

That is to say, I could put an asset on a new iLok, remove the iLok from my account, let it sit for a year, then send it to someone, and it will sync to their account

Does this approach work with the new style iLoks also, or has anything changed? Thanks |

Yes... it still works. iLok Support Center - FAQ ----- Although the feature of removing an iLok that contains licenses from an account is not available, there is a seven-day grace period to allow users to sort their iLoks into the proper accounts. After this grace period expires, iLoks are not movable. Here is how the remove feature works:
For example, if you register a new iLok on Monday at 7:00 a.m., its seven-day grace period starts and will end the following Monday at 7:00 a.m. If you remove the iLok the same day, then register it in any account two days later (on Wednesday), the remaining grace period will be five days. It does not matter that the iLok was not registered for one day (Tuesday). The grace period follows the iLok, and is never reset once it is started. This feature was designed to help users who accidentally register a new iLok to the wrong account, or for people who have several accounts and now find it more convenient to have just one. We recommend one account per individual user, or per studio |

Hi if i buy a new ilok sync it to my account transfer my PT9HD license to the newly synced ilok. Reject the ilok from my account. Then the new owner has 7 days to register it to their ilok account Do i have this right? I also want to try and put all my licenses on one ilok. so i have a whole 7 days to sync iloks to accounts and transfer licenses around before that ilok is stuck with an account. Hope someone can help im quite new to ilok transfering. |

You can swap licenses between iloks that are tied to the same account freely. its all in the ilok faqs. http://www.ilok.com/ilok-faq.html

If I want to sell my ilok that has my PT9 license on it with my mbox, why does ilok charge $100 if the new owner wants to register and use this ilok?? is there any way around this? seems silly to have to buy a new ilok, register it to my account, transfer the licenses, remove the ilok (within 7 days), and then give the new owner that new ilok and my mbox, when I already have these licenses on a ilok I do not need. yes, no?

From ilok's website. "Depending on the limitations on the transference of licenses on the iLok, have us perform a "iLok Transfer: Account Reassignment" which will allow us to transfer an entire iLok with all of its licenses from one user account to another. The price to transfer an iLok is $US100.00 and is subject to approval by the registered owner of the iLok." $100 for a new owner to register an ilok I'm selling with hardware???? |

I don't understand why you should have to ask permission to transfer a license. When you sell your car you don't have to ring up the garage you brought it from and ask if you can sell it. This just puts people off buying software from that company!
