ProTools error message, problem with Waves plug-ins. Please help.

So I'm having problems with my Waves plugins. Well, it's actually just a problem with this error message in ProTools. The plug-ins all work fine, my iLok works fine, but PT thinks they're not there.

When I open PT, it asks me to find the folder where the Waves plugins are.
http://i34.tinypic.com/4grots.jpg
I try to open the folder Library>Preferences>Waves Preferences.
Theoretically, this is where the file should be that PT is looking for. I know this because when I remove the 5.9.7 file from that folder, it gives me the same error message again but for 5.9.7 instead of 5.9.6. As you can see, I don't have the 5.9.6 file in that folder and I have no idea how to re-generate it.

So I just click "cancel" and it gives me this error message:
http://i35.tinypic.com/25sue8h.jpg
It thinks I don't have any plug-ins, but I can use them all in PT and they work fine.

But it's weird because the file it's looking for exists in this folder:
http://i38.tinypic.com/34r64qh.jpg
I tried selecting this folder when it prompts, but it still wasn't satisfied. I have no idea how to get rid of this stupid error message!

Right now I'm re-downloading the 5.9.7 bundle to see if that will fix things, but I just don't understand why it's asking for 5.9.6 when I have 5.9.7 and 5.9.8!

Hey AASteveo,

From what I can see in your images, none of them point to your Waves Plug-ins folder. In your Applications folder, look for the Waves Folder and then the Waves Plug-ins Folder (look at the 3rd image below) and then once located, it should load your plug-ins.

You also mention that it's asking for 5.9.6 when you in fact have 5.9.7.. Look in your Pro Tools plug-ins folder and see if both 5.9.6 & 5.9.7 are located in there. If so, take out 5.9.6, place it on your desktop and reboot PT and see if all works fine.

Chris

PS.. Btw, the plug-ins should not be in the Waves Preferences folder. They don't belong there.

Ok here's my plug-ins folder:
http://i34.tinypic.com/eqcuvp.jpg
I tried to show it that, and it's still not satisfied.
I tried showing it just "Applications>Waves" and it didn't like that either.

But the "Library>Preferences>Waves Preferences" folder only has a pref file for waves 5.9.7 and 5.9.8, but not 5.9.6. I know that the actual plugin files don't go in there, but the preference file holds all the info about the plugins.
I think it's just looking for the preference file for the 5.9.6 bundle because when I moved the pref file for the 5.9.7, it gave me a second identical error message for 5.9.7 as well as 5.9.6. So it seems like the lack of that file causes that error message.

But I go into the plugins folder (Applications>Waves>Waves Plug-ins) and there's nothing that has version numbers like that, it's all single plugin bundle files and I'm not sure which is which.

So I tried something else, I did a spotlight search for 5.9.6 and removed every single file with those numbers.
There were 4 files in the "Applications>Waves>WaveShells" folder
I removed all 4 files and put them on the desktop, then restarted the computer and booted up PT and STILL I get that message! Why the heck is it asking for 5.9.6???

What version plug-ins do you have in the Waves Plug-ins folder? Is it 5.9.6? If you're using 5.9.7 WaveShell-DAE you may have to install the whole 5.9.7 bundle. Once you do that, trash your Waves Preference folder. it will create another once you start Pro Tools.

I'm using the 5.9.7 version. It even says 5.9.7 that on my iLok license.

So I'll try re-installing the 5.9.7 bundle and then trash the prefs folder and I'll tell ya what happens.

Yes, do try all that and see what happens. Btw, I see you have 5.9.8. What do you have that requires it?

Okay so I re-installed 5.9.7 and trashed the pref folder, but I still get the error message about 5.9.6. :-(

I have no idea. hmm but now that you mention it, I remember something weird about when I very first installed the plugins. I think I installed a package that had more plugins than I had a license for, but I had to go in and delete the ones that wouldn't work. Maybe there are plugins in that folder that I'm not using, but it thinks I need 5.9.6 and 5.9.8 to run them.

I think I'm just going to move the plugins folder, and the prefs folder to the desktop and re-install 5.9.7 again and see which files are different.

Hmmm, that is really weird.. Lets try this again..

1- Do you have 5.9.6 in your Pro Tools plug-n folder? If yes, take it out of the folder
2- Try trashing the Waves Cache. You can find it here.. Home -> Library -> Caches -> Waves... Trash the Waves folder
3- Get rid of the Waves Preferences Folder again

I'm really at a loss as to why that may happen, other than the fact that 5.9.6 is still in the Pro tools plug-in folder..

I assume you're referring to the WaveShell-DAE. This file should only reside in the Pro Tools plug-ins folder.

Yes, i had a problem like that once...my plugs didn't work at all, then I had to manually move it to that folder....

strangely enough though, it does that for me when I re-install everthing during computer maintenance

Hmm.. oddly enough, during the Waves installation, the WaveShell-DAE should install in the PT plug-ins folder.

Good place to start Steveo. Take everything out as you mentioned, place it on your desktop and re-install. Go from there.

Okay I figured it out. I trashed the appz>waves folder, i trashed the prefs folder, then I re-installed 5.9.7 and it STILL was happening!
So I started digging and found the application support folder. "Harddrive>Library>Application Support>Digidesign>Plugins"
In this folder I found 3 DAE files. I just deleted 5.9.6 and 5.9.8 and now I no longer get that error message!!! Hooray!
It's such a relief to be able to just click on the PT icon and watch it open smoothly. I've had that damn error message for months!!!

Thanks for your help guys!

Ohhhhh. So the actual plug-ins are in the "Library>Application Support>Digidesgin>Plugins" folder, right? They are all .dpm files.

So what are the files in the "Applications>Waves>Waves Plugins" folder? They are all .bundle files.

Yes all Digidesign and 3rd party plug-ins are .dpm files and you can also find these in a alias folder located here as well... -> Applications folder -> Digidesign -> Pro Tools -> Plug-ins alias. This alias folder is a path to Library ->Application Support ->Digidesgin ->Plugins.

The bundle files are Waves only plug-ins. Most 3rd party plug-ins are located in the Pro Tools folder but Waves created their own folder. The WaveShell-DAE, in the Pro Tools plug-in folder, locates the Waves bundle.

Cheers!
