What interfaces are compatible with Pro Tools LE?

I have recently started working at a new studio and the owner thinks that we can use another interface in conjunction with the 002 rack to run Pro Tools LE. I keep telling him that I don't think that this is possible but before I get angry with him about it I want to just check to be 100% sure.
Basically we use two Motu 24 I/O's for Logic and a Digidesign 002 rack for Pro Tools LE with a Motu 2408 for D/A conversion for the 8 digital outs. I keep explaining that only Digidesign interfaces work with LE but he is having none of it. The other day he bought a Behringer 8 channel A/D converter because the guy in the shop said that it would extend the Pro Tools rig!
I am basically at the end of my tether with this now because the owner insists that before I came he had Pro Tools LE running through the 002 as well as the Motu 24 I/O. So therefore, before I get angry with him and tell him that he is 100% wrong I thought that I had better check for certain here. Am I wrong in any aspect of this?

Also, as a side note, does anyone else think that the A/D D/A conversion is appalling on the 002?

If he bought the Behringer ADA8000, you can hook that up to the 002 via ADAT I/O for eight more inputs.

The only interfaces you can use with LE are the 001 (up to PT6.4) 002, 003 or Mbox interfaces. You can use M audio interfaces with the M powered Protools but technically that's not LE

To add extra channels you can hook up loads of interfaces via ADAT and SPDIF but you already know that.

I did test a D24 card with an 882 attached to it once though in a PC that already had a 001 installed. PT LE could see the 882 but I didn't try tracking through it

you can run other a/d converters with a 002 or 003 as long as you run them through your lite pipe, opticals, or bnc connecters. this will expand your inputs/outputs not just limiting it with 8 ins/outs. my instructor runs a 002 with a digimax which gives him 16 ins/outs for live sound recording. he says the digimax is really transparent.

LE is 18io max. You could add a spdif interface, but that's it.

Oh, and people overstate how bad the conversion is. Especially those who've never actually used it, or who are monitoring in untreated rooms..

I'm still using 8 LE, for various reasons, and would like to know if anyone has tried using any other interface with it ?

I'm going to try using a Tascam US 100 and hopefully test an m-audio fast track pro as well. I will report back with the results asap.

I'm using an Mbox 2 now on a brand new Mac Pro and it crashes often because of the Mbox. I had a 08' Mac Pro which had the same problem with the Mbox, the Mac Pro I have now is a replacement as I thought it was the Mac causing the crashes not the Mbox, but I was wrong.

If you have 8 LE, the only interfaces you can use are the Digidesign ones.
