upgrading from Mac mini to Gx? for 002 system

Firstly, let me state I am a student and do not record professionally. I am a college student that enjoys writing and recording my songs.
I have a 002 with a 1.42 G4 Mac mini. I'd like to get a little more fire power out of my 002 system for the never ending passion of mixing my music. I'd like to keep the Mac mini if I can but would like to purchase a faster Mac for the 002. It would be a very big and expensive jump but I'm heading into the summer so I'll just work more.
Would purchasing a new 2ghz G5 iMac increase my capabilities to a significant degree?
Would I benefit noticeably more with a dual 2ghz G5 tower instead?

Yes and yes. If its a "want" thing then ignore my next remark and of course its only valid if youre using Protools;
you could set up/buy a pc for little more than your mac mini and get a huge power leap - similar to the 2ghz G5 tower. PTLE is PTLE regardless of whatever platform you're using.

Cheers,
Adam

You'll notice a huge difference in CPU headroom with a dual 2.0 GHz G5 than the G4 rig you currently use. I upgraded from a Powerbook 1.25 MHz to a dual 2.0 G5 in December and have yet to hit the wall with tracks & plug-ins with PTLE. And the good news is that Apple just dropped the price of the dual 2.0 by $500 - about what you probably paid for your Mac Mini.
