Selling a protools HD system, is ownership transfer a hassle?

I'm selling my Protools HD pci core card and the 7.4 software.
So I guess what I'm wondering is how does the new owner get the software?
I've upgraded over the years and do not have a disk, do I was going to download
the windows/mac version put it on a disk and send the core card the disk and the ilok.
They would then have to download the authorization from ilok once I transfered it to their account.
So is this legal and am I doing it right?
Is the transfer of ownership process a hassle?
Thanks for the help!
Daniel

Nope, it's easy. Go to the Digi website and download the PDF of the Transfer of Ownership form. Fill it out and include it along with the cards when you find a buyer. Nothing to it as long as you're properly registered.

You could always put in a call to Digidesign to make sure you all have the same info re the cards registration etc..

The new owner will have to register on the Digi site and then register
the hardware to their Digi account. Once Digi processes the paperwork,
then they'll be able to download the PT software themselves... takes
a little while, but eventually shows up.

Ok guys, thanks for the help! I thought that it must be a hassle being that most
of the used HD systems I see on ebay seem to be selling the cards without software or transfer of ownership.
One last question regarding plugins. Does digi require that I include the plugs that came originally with the card or plugs that I purchased with Ptools upgrades?

Thanks again,
Daniel

This will probably answer your question:

Digidesign | Support | Product Registration | Transfer of Ownership of Digidesign Products.

Basically, if the seller bought an HD core system originally, and is selling
it as such, then all pieces (hardware / software ) should be sold as it
was originally purchased.

I think the reason is likely clerical. When you buy and HD1 or 2 or 3, you get an
activation code on a 3x5 card .. and you enter that code in when you register it.
That's the record Digi has of the original owner.

What the seller adds on or purchases later can be sold as "free assets".. and they
can just do a normal iLok transfer to the buyer ..

Huge red flashing lights should go off if the seller is not willing to transfer
the software .. as...

1. The origin of the hardware may be dubious
2. It violates Digi's transfer of ownership policy. They may not
honor it ..

Jeff, thanks for the link! I'm trying to figure out what to include and how to price it.
I wasn't sure if I would have to include some of the plugs that I bought with the incremental protools upgrade.
We'll see how it goes.
