Importance of processor speed with (TDM) PT HD1

I'm going to pull the trigger of a Mac Pro tomorrow with the intention of getting a HD1 card in the near future. Even though I should wait a bit because Apple is probably going to come out with upgrades pretty soon (I don't doubt Digi will too) I need to get some work done. My question is this: If I buy the 2.8 8-core instead of the 3.0 or the 3.2 am I really going to see much of a difference using HD1? Will the lesser speed even be noticeable with software instruments? I'd like to save myself $1200 bucks and not regret it later.

I'm hoping this system gives me 48 tracks @ 96k and moderate use of VI's without any trouble. Anyone running a similar set up?

The 2.8 configuration is just fine, although with only an HD1 you are going to be using mostly all plug-ins, since enabling the long delay compensation will quickly eat up that single card's resources.

My best advice is to go with at least an HD|2 and you'll be fine. You could always go with an HD1 and then purchase an additional Accel card down the road as well, however you lose out on the plug-in pack that comes from Digi when purchasing an HD|2 system right off the bat.

Just make sure that you configure the system with at least 4gb of memory and at least two hard drives (you'll need a separate hard drive for the audio to conform to Digi's specs).

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the heads up. So do you think that 16 channels of delay comp is going to max out a core card?
