TIGER ...What's the big deal?

Unless I am over looking the obvious I see nothing in Tiger that will benefit most audio users. I see everyone in a panic msking it sound like all their systems are going to stop working or blow up if they don't upgrade. I can see if new G5's come out if they will not run Panther (Probably unlikely at least for the next few months) new owners may get into trouble but I see nothing in Tiger for me so far.

well, this is a significant OS upgrade, not a minor upgrade of some single application. i think there are huge possible benefits according to the feature lists and other reports from the rumor sites. with it being generally faster and having updated os level core audio and core midi updates, i think there are likely going to be benefits for audio folks and i expect many or all developers will be taking advantage of these updates in their software. so while folks might not upgrade their machines on every little upgrade, this one looks to be a keeper. and when apps specifically add features that require the new core audio features, for instance, you'd need to have tiger to run them. what's left to be seen is if there are any bugs for early adopters. like lots of folks, i have multiple macs at home and am not going to install tiger on my main daw right away, but instead on a secondary mac to get used to it first. when it seems like it's kosher it will go onto the main daw. that way i'll get used to tiger in the meantime.

Hmmm funny. I'm trying to find out where Apple "didn't' improve Tiger. Virtually every single pain point has been addressed in some fashion.

I do admit to being interested in the new 64-bit Core Audio Format. If the metadata is as "rich" as Apple claims them some nice functionality will come from that.

This is me, too. I never jump into an upgrade right away - I guess it's because of too many years of feeling like I was beta tester without asking to be one. I usually wait until the ".1" version of any OS or software upgrade and let these companies rely on others to bang on their new product to find all the bugs.

i'd think anyone using a DAW for work ought to have at least one other computer around for this reason amongst others.

the big deal?? the big deal? cant you see its the precursor to the highly classified OS 10.5 codenamed "Crock" ? with 256bit core audio paths, along with super duper midi ver 5, which will allow you to control your toaster oven from the other room using the new super duper 384bit apple wireless network??

Dude, get a clue. In order to use all of the cats in the feline family one must come out with a new...cat.

Hence, Tiger.

Seems pretty clear to me.
