Question Need to record 192kHz, need to stripe DA88s and more

Hi mates,

I've posted this at the unicorn, but thought of getting more comments and feedback, so I'll try here too..

1) I have a potential job that might require recording and finishing in 192kHz.

My main rig is a MAC DP 1.25Ghz running 10.3.6 with ProTools 6.4LE now on a Digi001, so the most it could go is 48khz. Might need to look into DP (4.5?).

I also have another XP machine running 001 too, and I have Sonar 4 on it.

Anyway, maybe I'll sort out the software later, main question now is, I'm looking at some MOTUS, so inorder to get 192khz, I'll need either the Traveller or the HD192, right? The other MOTUs can only go up to 96khz right?

But, what is the most simulatneous 192khz input i can get? on the website it mention 192kHZ on the TRS analog x 4 only. So does it mean, i cannot use the ADAT I/Os to achieve 8 channels of 192kHz? or if i want to bypass MOTU's A/Ds altogether with SPDIF or ADAT I/Os, I can't?

2) is the Traveller or HD192 really plug and play on both my MAC (straight into the default firewire interface, or thru my additional Adaptec Fireconnect PCI card) or PC (thru the Adaptec fireconnect PCI card)? Anything else i need to be aware of?

3) Another potential job involves exporting components of my final mix (1hr documentaries) onto TASCAM DA-88s. So, I'm also looking at the 2408 mk3 which have TDIF I/Os. so i can stripe the DA-88s via TDIF.

Question here is, can i use the 2408 mk3 as a "standalone" ADAT to TDIF "hardware converter" without going through DP4 or my cakewalk etc?

My main mix will be in Pro Tools (LE). since the Digi001 have 8 ADAT I/O, i was thinkig of utilising the 2408mk3 to take ADAT optical from my 001, and kick out TDIF into the DA-88s.

My master sync/clock is the MOTU Digital Time Piece (DTP)

will there be any latency issues in this way?

I might want to convince my client to accept 96kHz for my first potential job, so that i just need to get the 2408mk3 for both jobs instead of getting 2 separate interfaces.

Comments, suggestions and recommendations of other interface please? My budget is in the range of the MOTU gears, so I cannot really afford much high end stuffs like the Pro Tools HDs..

Sound quality is quite important, for the 1st job. For the 2nd job, sync is very crucial. Coz, there is video involved.

Thanks & Regards,
[Charles]
