Interesting Apple/Logic Problems

I have been using Apple and Logic for years with no major problems. All of a sudden today, my Apple will automatically reboot (only once oddly) about a minute after I do my initial boot and the desktop is loaded.

I thought that was odd. So I shut down my computer, started it again, and a minute later it rebooted. It will reboot, but only once. This is already abnormal, but I continued on anyway because I am trying to finish an album and I need to get to mixing.

So I load Logic 8 with a project that I have been working on for months with not a single crash. Upon hitting play, it immediately tells me my computer is too slow. I hit play again, once again it is too slow. So now I go to my settings to adjust my playback settings and I get a really long pinwheel.

SOB

I don't think Logic is the problem. I think there is something wrong with my computer. I know that I just need to take it in to the Apple Store.

I was wondering if any of you have had a similar problem?

PS - Running a MAC Pro with 10.4.11. 4GB RAM. No issues. I have not done anything drastic to my computer in months, so I know it's not a driver or update issue.

It sounds like a power supply unit problem.

Did you try resetting it?

There are a couple of threads here on how to do that (with posts by me too).

You might try running the hardware diagnostics that come on one of the install discs that come with the machine. You hold down D while booting from Disc1, on an Intel Mac. You could run the extended tests, they might well point you to the failed piece of hardware.

Also check and see if all your ram is present in the 'about this mac' screen. I had a logic board prob at one time with my pbg4. The ram slots went kaput.

Reset PRAM (hold down apple+option+P=R at startup until you hear 2 subsequent chimes after the initial chime)

Run diskwarrior

these would be the preliminary troubleshooting tips (and something id do semi often anyway) and if that doesnt cure it, check it into an AASP...sounds RAM or Logic Board related most likely...doesnt sound like HD corruption.

But ya never know
