Question Redbook Burning Software for OS X

What are other GS doing for redbook burning in OS X?

For long enough I was making do with Toast & Jam until Waveburner got the OS X treatment.

Now it seems that Waveburner has arrived and it is built into Logic. Is there no way to buy it separatley?
And if not, is buying Logic Express a good way to obtain Waveburner?

If there is no simple way to get a hold of Waveburner I will have to upgrade Toast & Jam but a) I don't like the software and b) can't find the upgrade prices.

Argh! I just want to burn a CD. How hard can it be??!?!

WaveBurner is not available seperately. it's not included with Logic Express afaik, only with Logic Pro.

thanks for this Kent. hadn't explored DSP Quattro & from what I can work out it now handles redbook burning natively.

could be just what I need & cheaper than Toast with Jam was in the first place.

Got iTunes?

Open it, got to prefs, select AIFF for importing, and Audio CD for burning, close.

Creat new playlist (click +), name it, drag file(s) in, click burn.

Done.

Thank You kindly, and right back at you.

After so many years with Masterlist and Toast, I actually prefer iTunes.

YMMV

fair enough but critically (and correct me if I am wrong here) iTunes does not burn redbook CDs. Or have I missed something in an incremental release and this functionality is there?

Otherwise your reply is about as informative as me replying to a thread entitled What is you favourite Neumann Mic? saying "oh, I like the AKG 414".

if you are using peak, jam is included with it. i purchased the full version of jam for os9, but the osx version was included with peak so upgrading peak was kind of a two for one. one improvement in jam for making quick little reference cd's is that i can put in higher fidelity files and let jam do the conversion. last night the guy wanted to listen to the rough mixes in the car and transfer things to the ipod, so it was cool that i could put some 24/96 audio files into jam and burn right away for the rough mixes. i'll do the conversion myself for the final mixes, but it was a convenient thing for the rough mixes. so i'm still using jam.

ps: i also own logic and therefore have waveburner for osx and at this point it's useless. the first osx version of waveburner is a mess. i presume future versions of waveburner will get it into better shape. right now dsp quattro or jam are the real options for osx.

You are wrong. If you follow my instructions, iTunes burns fully Redbook compliant CDs.

You're welcome.

BTW, I like 67s.

I couldn't be happier to know that I have this functionality come free with my computer.

Some questions about iTunes redbook burning capablilties;

Will the the tracks play contiguously?

Can I enter ISRCs?

Can I make non silent pauses inbetween tracks?

Thanks in advance,

OK, I'll play along for a moment. Yes, if they're trimmed to contain no silence and '0 second pause' is selected.

No, but you can enter track titles, album, artist, etc. However, I have no idea if these will show up on the handful of players that display ISRCs.

Not that I'm aware of.

Alright, Neil.
This will be my last post to you on this or (likely) any subject, as you are quite antagonistic and sarcastic, to boot.

This is what you originally asked:

Well then, not hard at all. I told you how to burn a 'redbook' compliant cd in iTunes. Period.

I'm not sure how you morphed that simple request into tasks more commonly associated with authoring PMCDs. You didn't specify you wanted to master CDs. A very important distinction.

To reiterate: iTunes is NOT an editor, you CANNOT edit PQ or ISRC codes, and you cannot generate a PMCD on a DDP. You can't do fancy hidden track #99, or any of the other cool stunts, either...

You CAN however, burn an audio CD that will play in most any player. THAT defines the rather archaic requirements for 'REDBOOK'; -NOT PMCD-

You have the anwer to the question you posed. If you need more, may I suggest an old mac and MLCD.

BTW while DSP Quattro looks like a strong upcoming contender you should know that as of this writing the software does not implement ISRC codes. I stay in touch with the company every couple of months inquiring.

Until the field improves this is what I've been dealing with.
1.- Dedicated Mac running OS 9.2.1 with OS 9 version of Waveburner.
2.-I am getting more acquanted with Peak and Jam OSX. Once you get comfortable with it they're a rather powerful combination.

iTunes is good for a quick copy after a session and that's it. Ridiculous to view it as any kind of red book compliant mastering software.

I just bought me an old spark on ebay, plus an update from TC.
very nice in the editing dept. makes logic pre 7 (not 6 that was fine) look like a drooling moronic bs app. (which it is!)
but when saving projects or files, sometimes spark crashes. And takes your newly recorded files (temps) with it. (where did they go?)
I use the latest OS. On older OS (10.3.2 and back) there should be no problems.
so ehrm not recommendable. what a shame TC don't do Spark anymore..

I hate Apple for giving us a beta waveburner. give us something that works please!
every day I am more fed up with that. what a mess. but that is another story.
And I'll save you the details.

one question: how is the batch converter on Quattro? I need to do 24bit 96Khz to 16bit 44.1Khz conversions.

thanks

oh yeah, your question: I track in Logic, sum analogue, record back in Logic, convert in Spark, and burn in Toast. Itunes is nice to listen to, but in the new version the option to use a separate burning app (like toast) is not there anymore. So I don't do Itunes except for listening to internet radio, while surfing ebay and this forum, but if itunes works for you, fine! I just like toast, to burn. It just makes such a nice PING sound, when your disk is ready

Jam works for me, learn it, use it. When something better comes out: learn it, use it. What else do you do?
I do my editing in protools, setup markers etc... When I have BWF files I use them to lay on the tracks and use the markers to indicate start points for tracks. thus I can have multiple tracks for the same audio file. If you read the help that comes with Jam you'll know as much as I do.

I have high hopes for this piece of software:

but for the time being, and Sonic notwithstanding, Jam is "it".
