Quietest Hard Drive for Powermac G5?

Hi,

I am still using my very noisy stock 160gb hard drive that came with my D.P 1.8 Powermac G5. Can anyone recommend a nice silent drive? I'm looking for 500gb which is the maximum my system can handle.

Cheers!

Anyone? I just need to be pointed in the right direction of the quietest models that would
suit my machine? Can I use any SATA drive? or are there limitations of my machine being the 4gb memory max dual 1.8ghz G5 Powermac.

Anyone???

i have the same machine.. I was just gonna post on this same question. My stock 80 gig is almost maxed im glad you told me the G5 can only handle 500 gigs.

Here is a good sata drive based on the reviews i have read. Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives

by the way does your mac read 4 gigs. Mine doesn't it stops 1.5

Thanks for the reply!

I have also found this drive, which has great reviews based on how quiet it is!

Seagate ST3500320AS 500GB Hard Drive SATA II 7200rpm *32MB Cache* - OEM - Ebuyer

My machine does show 4gb?! I seem to remember that it is 2x2x1gb matched pairs!

The Quietest Hard Drive setup is a really up to the $5 20ft usb cable that allows you to put the loud hard drive in another room or closet. Then again you could buy a $20 KBM setup and run your pc in another room. Doesn't get any quiter than that. Doesn't get any cheaper either. No 60hz interference or
other issues.
