New Powerbook for $899!

I just bought a new Powerbook g4 for $899

ALL Microcenter stores have the previous version powerbook 12” 1.33ghz g4 brand new in a box for $1099. They have an additional $100 mail in rebate and an additional $100 rebate for signing up for Microcenter Visa. The store close to me in Westmont IL. had another unit available…

For $899 I couldn’t resist!

That's a damn good deal. What's the difference between that one and the new model?

I have been trying like crazy to get this computer!!!

Still no luck. I have called every Microcenter store I could get to in any possible way and every one of them has no more in stock. Also, the online rep told me they were checking if they could get more in, but were not sure at this time if they were going to be offered again.

I am frustrated. And if anyone happens to see one of these computers, please let me know, I will try to call and get it shipped to a store closer to me.

That probably won't happen, but oh well. I just really was ready to buy this.

I hope they get more in.

I am happy (who am I kidding, floored) to report that I now respond to gearslutz on this beautiful 12" Apple Powerbook.

I just kept calling and finally my microcenter got 2 in, so I drove up and got one last night. I love it. This is my first Mac, and I really like OS X. This will now make a great location recording tool also so I dont have to haul around my desktop pc.

The Microcenter in Mayfield heights just may have another one in stock still, so if you want to, check it out. I think it would be pretty hard to beat this deal.

Thanks a lot for the welcome man.

Actually, I should be alright to continue with my setup I currently have. It is really a pretty modest setup right now as far as the interface/DAW goes, but what I plan on doing is recording to the powerbook and just doing enough mixing for tracking purposes, using my firewire hard drive. Then I plan on using my current pc desktop for mixing, as I think it is a little more powerful than the powerbook at 2.8gHz and 1 gig of ram.

I have the Presonus Firepod, and right now I am just using the Cubase LE program that came with it. I don't like it as much as PT LE, but its alright, and I like the Firepod a lot better than my Mbox. Fortunately, Cubase is Mac/PC compatable, so I think I should be able to continue as I have been, except now i don't have to worry about lugging around my desktop for recording. I would like to go Mac for my main mixing computer too, but I can't afford something as powerful as my Sony right now, and it is nice having a full size keyboard and MS Office to use for college.

I am excited to start really using the powerbook. I love the portablility of this 12" model.
