good speaker cab emulation

Hi!

I've been hearing alot about new DI guitar methods and about hybrid setups. Some people are saying they're having success by using separate amp emulation AND cab emulation.

I'm thinking of different ways of doing it, either using separate amp emulation and speaker emulation, both using software, or possibly using a real tube amp and direct out with software speaker emulation.

I know there is no real replacement for a real setup, I am however limited by noise and size restraints inside my apartment.

I don't beleive I've even heard of any specific speaker emulation before.

What is one? Which is best?

thanks

hi wakestyle !

Have you ever tried Amplitube or Guitar Rig ?
You can select the desired cabinet and microphone, even the placement of microphone in front of the cabinet. Not sure if you can use your own amp, send amplified signal in and select just the cabinet through software though...
But that is the software you are probably looking for or at least gets pretty close to what you want to do wit it.

Give it a shot !

Feel free to contact in case of any questions.

Get the free voxengo boogex.
Turn the gain all the way down so all you get is cab sim. QUite a few different ones in there for free. You can also add the guitarhack impulses in there as well.
Use a vst amp sim before this and turn off the cab emulation. Nick crow makes some good free vst amps without cab emu's.

If you have UAD, try Nigel. You can turn off everything except the Cab emulation.

If you don't have UAD, there are cheaper solutions (Boogex was already mentioned).

For macs, there's a freeware plug called LAConvolver, and plenty of free cab IRS on the net. Alot of metal guys seem to be getting good results with this combo.

palmer pdi-03 how does it handle for bass? I was looking at the tech 21 rbi or the ashley bp41 for bass but it would be nice to get an all in one deal for my guitar as well that is just solid.

izotope trash has a number of cab emulations by themselves, as does the line6 gearbox plugin (which is basically a plugin POD for a great price). i use these and amplitube, depending on the tone i want.
