Guys I'm wondering which East West Play Orchestra to pick up. Would you guys spring for the 24 bit or is 16 bit more than enough for pop/rock music backgrounds, and film music (independent short films)

Well if you have the money go for the 24 because the better it is the better it is you know! But on the other hand cd's are sold to everyone at 16 bits so the end result would be the 16 bits even if you used 24 But at the same time who wants to polish a turd Get the 24 bit 16 if your broke |

I upgraded to the Play Platinum Plus version (24/16 bit) from Gold Pro. The 24-bit versions obviously use more processing - my strategy is to compose/arrange with the 16-bit samples then, prior to bouncing, loading in the 24-bit samples. That said however, it was the 3 different mic positions available in Platinum that swung me more than the 24/16 bit choice. For that reason alone I would look to the Platinum versions rather than Gold or below.

Is the three mic positions worth the upgrade to you? Does it give you more realism?

well I'm still waiting for the Play version to arrive as they have not yet begun shipping (were due to ship from 15 July but still no shipping advice yet), however, yes the ability to choose between close mic positions and more distant ones should help provide more realism at times, as the Gold version does not give you the ability to get a "drier' sound from the samples should you wish. At times with the Gold samples I did wish they had less reverb on them.....

If you'd like to hear some of the gold samples in a song setting, the first song on my myspace player ("Long Beaches") has a small orchestral section at 2.32s approx - strings/horns and perc/timp.... there's bits of it all through the track in places, but mostly there.
