Format of audio files when exporting for Pro Tools

I am just confirming what I think I know and may find I don't know.

I have been editing a project in Digital Performer 5.13, client wants to mix in a studio that is using Pro Tools. I bounced the individual tracks and exported the files as .aif.

Was that the best choice? Would Pro Tools rather see SDII files?

Thanks.

The two choices I saw in the export window were SDII and AIF. If .wav was an option, I missed it.

I guess there are two questions:

1) Will Pro Tools import .AIF files with out much hassle? Do I need to re-do my export?

2) For future reference, is SDII or .AIF better for file transfer from DP to PT?

Pro Tools will read both AIFF and SDII just fine. You will not have to redo your export.

For the next time, DP 5.13 can also export as WAV. (and v6 can even work with WAV's directly).

Thanks! That is the answer I was looking for.

Sounds like the best format would be .WAV, but .AIF and SDII would also work.

The aforementioned formats all work, just make sure stereo tracks are split-stereo (two mono files) if you want to refer to original media.

What's the sample rate? DP creates 96kHz SD2 files which aren't supported by Pro Tools (the spec only says 44.1 and 48k). Windows users would also have issues since sd2 files require a resource fork. Use a flat file format like AIFF or WAV.

DP doesn't support BWF files? I'm kinda surprised at that.

New version 6 (just released) supports BWF. Previous version do not. From what I know, DP is/was one of the last pro apps to use SDII as it's native format.

Correct me if I am wrong. Please.

The project I am currently concerned with is 24/48. Interesting to hear about the resource forks for SDII, damned flat-ware.
