They just released the 7.0.1 update, but that one doesn't include ADC afaik. It won't be for now yet. Maybe around Musikmesse.

To quote from this announcement:
"The ability to seamlessly take your project from GarageBand to the Logic family was cited as an important goal by Apple officials. The new features found in GarageBand 2 will be included in the update as well. This includes applying pitch and timing correction to entire audio tracks.
Another significant feature in the planned update for the Pro version of Logic is bus latency compensation to accommodate plug-ins that inherently introduce some latency".
I think this a bit absurd actually. So, stuff and features that there are available in a "toy" thing from Apple already will also become a part of the world class pro thing called LogicPro from Apple??? Really, shouldn't this be actually the other way around??? Also, world class leading blablabla, how come everybody else has already Delay Compensation and LogicPro not?
It looks like Apple is using the former Emagic team to make their consumer market products interesting rather then focusing on the pro-market to which Logic belongs(ed)...

of course, theres maybe 10 people that use logic, but 10 million who own an iPod and might want to buy a mini-MAc and think GarageBAnd is 'sorta cool..'. why fight over the discriminating, complaining professional who could just as easily pick nuendo, samplitude, or pro-tools and be happy, when yuo can focus on your niche of expertise...con/prosumer products with that marketing gloss and design sheen that only Apple can do...

My understanding is that it has already been written and is ready to go.
& yes, they are planning to piss off people by charging.
C'mon Apple! Sort your shit out! This should have been included in Pro 7, it would endear you too many users by admitting as much and doing the upgrade for free.

Stop whinning like a bunch of girls !
Harmony Central Quote: |
Apple declined to state on exactly when the new update would be available, or what the version number would be. It will be available for a nominal charge.
| Orren Merton from the LUG Quote:
Before people start panicking and starting more doom and gloom
freakouts over the word "charge," let me explain how I understood this
"charge:"
This is intended to be a CD or DVD (I don't recall) upgrade, not
download. As such, the cost will be approximately the cost of shipping
and handling--like $19.95 or something like that, just to cover costs
| Orren Merton from the LUG Quote:
My understanding is that part of the "GarageBand 2 Compatibility" means
shipping with all of it's sample/EXS instruments, Apple Loops, and so
on (I don't know what it comes with, but certainly some new goodies).
So I'm guessing that its not feasible to offer a 1GB download (or
whatever it ends up being).
I would be nice if it were free, but the reality of the business world
is that manufacturing DVDs, the human beings packaging them up, the
delivery service that carries it to your door, etc. all need to be
paid. For every 50,000 people who update to 7.1, assuming it costs
them $20 in manufacturing, shipping, labor, and so on to get the DVD to
your door, that's $1 million dollars. I don't think Apple is willing
to take that sort of loss on Logic updates.
| Also take into consideration that in order for PDC the audio engine probably needed to be re-written.
So a whole new app will be on the CD or DVD as well.

I hope your quoted sources are correct, the figure I was told had an extra digit. Fingers crossed that you're right.

Peter | You mean the "bunch of girls" who just shelled out several hundred over two versions of Logic that still failed to address the full PDC problem?
I just don't think Peter gets it. It's great that Apple is finally doing something about this... but isn't that what people paid the few hundred for the upgrades to versions 6 and 7 for? PDC isn't a new issue to Logic, it was started but not finished back in version 5.
Either way, great for Logic when the update does get here. But not an endearing move for Apple to do this when they just charged folks for the recent upgrade to version 7. All of the talk of how much it cost Apple to rewrite code is a moot point, because rewriting the code for full PDC was one of the things folks paid Apple to do prior to version 6 and definetly before version 7.

To all the "whiners" out there: you payed for what you got, Apple didn't sell Logic 7 as having delay compensation. If you didn't like it not having that, why did you bought the upgrade in the first place? |
