PC -> Mac hard drive transfer... help???!!!

Hi all,

have a client that recorded his album at a studio running PT on PCs. I am to mix it. I'm also on a Mac. (OS 9.2.2) he has a Lacie drive. its a 160gb drive, which new out of the box is formatted for Macs. SO the AE at the studio formatted it NTFS. but only a 40GB partition.. (dont know why).. and that is what has the album on it. he tells my client that it should work on a Mac...
... well Nope it does not. SOOoooo. how can i get my Mac to read this.

or do i have to go to some PC witth 40gb of free space, dump everything on there, and reformayt the drive Fat32??? will Fat32 work on mac??

i have been mounting PC formatted SCSI drives all the time.. (when i do post prod) but have never paid any attention to what they are formatted s.

anyone have an idea???

cheers

OS 9 can't deal with NTFS formatted drives... either find a Mac running Panther (which can read an NTFS drive) or find a PC and save the session as Mac/PC compatible to a FAT32 or HFS+ drive using MacDrive from www.mediafour.com

the sessions are pc-mac compat already.

its just the drive issue.

So all of the SCSI drives i have been using muct be FAT32.. hmmm

as i will have to find a PC to use to do this.... i will have to dump to it, reformat as FAT32, and then dump back to the Lacie. and then Dump to my Mac, and reformat as HFS+ and dump back.. for back-up and then get to work.

isnt there a size limit with FAT32 for formating???

Under XP.. 32 gigs -- however, as I said.. if you can find a Mac running Panther you can copy the files to a local drive and reformat the drive and put the data back on the drive.

hi,

As a Pc guy who has to communicate with macs sometimes I formatted my external firewire disk (120gb) as a FAT32 one - one partition only.

I remember XP had trouble formatting it, but unfortunately i do not remember how i did it finally, maybe search for fat32 big disk or whatever.

anyway, works like a charm.

(btw: there are tools to covert mac protools audio files to pc .WAV, should exist the other way around as well)

Hope this helps,
Herwig

i dont have a problem with the sessions. they were exported correctly from the PC as AIFF. (tracked on 88.2 and 96 ,i dont know why the recording eng was inconsistent) and then exported ...tweakhead setting... to 44.1 or 48 Mac compat enfoced, and AIFF.

the problem is gettting the 40 odd gigs of this album onto my mac. I just need to use someone's PC for about 2 hours. this would be easier in London as i know people, but i am in LA LA Land (los angeles) and do not know anyone....and dont have a car here (bad idea).....

anyone in LA kind enough to let me use their PC to dump this stuff to, reformat, and dump back???

Or anyone with a MAC and Panther for an OS????

cheers all
