I run both Protools and Final Cut Pro on my iMac at home. At the studio
we have Mac Pros.

The iMac is perfectly fine for both music and video production. The issue is how
long you want to wait for the video renders.

Something that might take 3 hours to render on an iMac might take 1 1/2
hours on a Quad or Octo Mac Pro.

Most of the time, it's not big deal to wait a little bit .. vs. having to
drive to the studio and back.

Bottom line, yea .. unless you're doing HD with 20 layers of overlays, the iMac
will work just fine.

also run an iMac (2.16...2GB) with pro tools and Final Cut Pro and After Effects...

I record 16 tracks in pro tools regularly for as long as 3 hours with no stopping (live shows) and never had a problem.

I will agree that rendering video can take a little longer...especially in After Effects for me anyway...but its really not a big deal

I love my iMac...even though i bought it right before the new ones came out...stupid me
