Does anyone use Virtual PC on OSX?

Gaaah!

I've been a Mac user back to the Apple IIe days. Never used a PC for anything.

BUT... I can't take it anymore. I either need to buy a PC, or Virtual PC needs to work flawlessly.

I need to run Plextools Pro, and the Windows versions of Quickbooks and Quicken are far too superior to their Mac counterparts.

Is all this going to work on Virtual PC? Does it actually work?

Any advance warnings or caveats would be appreciated.

Dave for the price of the software, and the time you'll spend working the bugs out...

You can buy a killer 2.4 gig pc for around $500. Build it yourself from kits at computer central in SF or online. I do it all the time. Stupid easy!!! Then just network 'em via OSX. Works great!!!!

later...

Virtual PC Works great ! I would'nt be running audio apps on it, but quicken and quickbooks, that what its for.

I would'nt have any concerns about picking a copy of Virtual PC. The lasted version you can even drag files from the windows desktop to your mac desktop, and put a windows startup button icon in the Os X dock.

I used to use VPC to run the Editor for thr DMX R100 and it worked fine. I'd think that light duty stuff like that would work fine.

It came with a second hand dual 500 I bought a while back. Got a kick out of booting it up on the mac to run the windows version of iTunes when it came out.

Is there any limit to its interaction with peripherals? ie: can you print to your printer, or access your firewire drives, etc?

It would probably be worth it for the Quickbooks/Quicken angle alone, but if it can also run something like Plextools (CD-burner utility/analysis software -- not an audio recording/editing rig), I'd be pretty thrilled with it... and I'd feel less "dirty" than if I actually got a PC (duende!!)

Printers yes, FW drive, not sure. If it did'nt Your drives would just mount on the OS X desktop and file can be drug back and forth.
But with Version 7 it might do this, not sure.

check it out

You can even use your macs internet connection in VPC. You can load up on all the most recent PC viruses.
