oh BTW I make beats now but seem to be more dance / hip hop oriented ( more dance than hip hop ) and the occasion rockish composition

I've been doing industrial on and off since the late 80's/early 90's (the heyday of industrial)...
and there aren't DJs doing 'beats' like hiphop, generally... all the guys I ever met just programmed their own drums.

The only loops I ever used were for rhythmic 'texture' behind the standard drum lines.

There are probably some industrial loops out there - but program your own... it's far more satisfying (and fun) and it'll always be YOURS.

If you want to try something good... program a nice, heavy sounding beat - straight forward with little percussion. Now find a good loop - lowpass it - and run it behind the straight drum track...

It's all about experimenting..

Maybe if he sees this thread, Chris Randall (Sister Machine Gun) will chime in here... as he's a lot better at programming than I am.

Here here.... I would say most in this genera rely on a heavy use of samplers. most I know spend a lot of time on sound design and sampling unique sounding sources, then programing their own beats from said sounds.
