Logic 8.1 - What Do You Want

1. New Sampler Please, the current one is about 10 years out of date.
2. New Guitar Amp - Guitar Amp Pro sounds like so stale and digital compared to newer amps like Amplitube and Waves GTR3
3. Elastic Audio - Like the one in Pro Tools, nothing innovative, just copy the one in Pro Tools and that would do for me.

The ability to arrange tracks in the mix window. (Like PT)

The ability to select and move more than one track at a time.

I want the ability to apply every AU plug-in to selected audio regions within the arrange window. Just like Audiosuite plugs in Pro Tools. Or VST in Cubase/Nuendo. Or in Soundtrack Pro or in...haaah, just like any other DAW out there.
And also from within the sample edit window (like the TDM plug-ins that appear here when you're running Logic/DAE). Shouldn't be hard to do...!

Number one request of mine as it has been for, what, 3 years now???

FIX MUTLI-CHANNEL VIRTUAL INSTRUMENTS!!!!

They should AT LEAST work as well as their MIDI ancestors, with individual channel control over panning and volume. Not being able to mix VI's as easily as MIDI has been one of the biggest time wasters for years in Logic, and it's an embarrassingly overdue 'feature' already long since provided by all their major competitors.

And trust me, I know all the workarounds. But they are WORKAROUNDS. It should just WORK.

Other than that...

Bring back "set audio filepath". Not being able to name your recording files like you could in L7 is a huge step back. I really hate this about L8. They should at least steal their own system from Final Cut Pro, which allows you to set a prefix to each new file so you can tell which project it belongs to. The current system leaves you with a hundred folders named "Audio Files" and a million files named "Guitar". Ugh.

Elastic Audio - that'd be nice.

Mix/Automation "takes". I'd like to be able to have one project contain various 'takes' of automation so I wouldn't need to resave (and reload) the entire thing just to hear different mixes. Should work something like the 'tempo alternatives' list.

A 'Burn' feature to match the "Freeze" feature. 'Burn' would apply all your plugins to the track, in place, leaving you with a 'finished' audio file that could be edited and move around (unlike Freeze files). It'd be nice if 'Burn' would also turn VI channels into audio channels too...

FIX the comping feature or at the very least allow users to turn it off

Get rid of Busses and leave only Aux's. You know it's gonna happen eventually and having both is just needless confusion and clutter, kept only for loading old projects. Which actually doesn't work very well anyway.

A 'ping' feature for external outboard.

NO new plugins or loops or other crap-ware until the program is rock solid.

I expect these changes to happen sometime in lat 2084.

#1 request is make the new GUI fit better on 13" MacBook screens.

Also, make the arpeggiator play correctly when loop is on and I press play. I should have to wait for the second measure to hear it accurately.

64 bit support(i mean 'cmon shoulda have been a 64bit app from 8.0) and REAL multicore support. Elastic audio!!!!!!!! Yeah.. A new sampler and a new power synth would be nice. I agree with that request to remove the busses. Should be either busses or auxes IMO. The stock plug ins start to feel their ages too..

When you guys think apple will release 8.1?? AES maybe?

Yeah, make EXS24 easier to set up - like Battery 1 and 2 - where you can drag and drop 50 samples and have the automatically setup into a new instrument.

I wouldn't mind an update to the audio window too - ala Soundtrack Pro. Along with Abelton Live's warp feature.

-Fix Paste/replace.....in fact change CMD/V to do just that! Shift/cmd/v is a pain in the A** even if it DID work.

- Fix "return to last position" so the "position" doesn't constantly change to the last record in position. Do the coders or Beta testers ever work in a normal recording situation?

+1 on non destructive editing
+1 on Elastic Audio
These are huge time-savers that are not very well developed in the Logic bundle.

They're only there if you load a pro7 project. But I agree ban that terminology.

Easily assignable multi disk recording (a la Pro Tools) . i.e tracks 1 to 24 disk 1, tracks 25 to 48 disk 2, etc.

If I get another "Disk Too Slow" error, I'm gonna...

That sets the recording destination folder. You still can't set the NAME of recorded files, like you could in L7, hence the problem. Names are set by the channel strip or track name, which means unless you custom name every track in every template you have, you will - as I said - end up with a million files named "Guitar".

"Comping Working flawlessly in .02 for me............."

I'm happy for you - honest. But it's not working flawlessly here, and on many other users machines.

"Aux/Busses -- They're only there if you load a pro7 project. But I agree ban that terminology."

No, they're still both there in new L8 projects. Add a send to one of your mixer tracks. You'll see it adds a "Bus Send". Then L8 creates a new AUX channel (with the bus as an input). It's a kludgey way to work and I hope they fix it soon.

Anyway, I really just hope they fix multi-timbral VI's, and other bugs.

Just noticed last night that when you modify the tracks seen in Global Tracks, like adding a movie track, the setting isn't remembered when you reload the tune. Very annoying. Just the same way setting tools in your matrix and other editor windows aren't remembered unless the window remains open when you save. Annoying little things like that add up to alot of time wasted every day on Logic SemiPro.

But I'm making a living with it anyway, so I guess it ain't all bad.

Playlists, Playlists, Playlists! Better group implementation. Some type of Beat Detective. Make paste replace work and make it the default behavior! Fix auto input monitoring. Pretty good to go if this stuff happens. Could be the final PT breaker for me

64-bit support.

Elastic Audio would be a great new feature. (for both pitch and time).

Increased efficiency, stability, bug fixes.

Improved I/O delay handling, and management of outboard effects units.

1. Volume envelopes on regions
2. Add FX in place to regions
3. Better group editing, including fades to groups (with tool in Arrange - not in Inspector)
4. Fade handles on regions
5. Add a "Flatten" (as in Live7) function in addition to "Freeze"
6. Pinging/correcting audio inserts for outboard gear
7. A juicer/blender combination so I can make smoothies while I work.

Audiosuite style region/file processing.

Ditch the sample editor altogether and move functionality
to the arrange window where it should be.

Non-destructive audio editing.

The option for Mono outputs.

Melodyne like editing with Elastic pitch and time properties.

This will never happen but I'd love to have the developers open up their bug tracking app to the public similar to those found on open source projects so folks can see what is being worked on and how things are being prioritized. As long as I am in dream mode, how about letting outside folks (those who register) submit bugs into a queue and allow for commenting on individual bug list items.

Why do we not have Elastic Audio? Everyone else does, it's such a time saver it's not funny, c'mon Apple sort it out.
