Newbie to Mac and Logic question involving sample libraries

I'm new to the land of Macs and Logic, so this might seem a little dumb, sorry. After I've installed Logic (on a Macbook Pro), can I move the sample content to an external drive?

I'm not a Mac user but i'm pretty sure you can. The first thing i would suggest you to do is read the manual of your Logic, it should have a section explaining how to proceed with installation of either the Software and the Library just like any other sound library Cd or dvd installer.

Hope that a mac user will show up to give you a direct straight answer!! Good luck!

Basically yes. You can put samples on an external drive. If you move the apple loops, they might not appear in the media browser in the same way (I am not 100% sure) but you can find them and move them to another disk, then access them by going to audio tab/window and access them that way. The samples for the EXS24 involve using a trick of putting an alias for the external folder on the main disk. Keep in mind, that if you open a song later, and the drive is not turned on or hooked up, then Logic will ask you to find the samples included in the song.

You should make the decision where to put your samples before installation. In Logic, during installation, the Logic installer gives you the option to choose between different storage locations.

There's a program from Redmatica, called EXSManager, whose job it is to re-link EXS programs whose samples have been moved. That way when they're loaded (after the move), Logic doesn't have to look around for the samples, and doesn't bother you with questions. Worth looking into. AFAIK, it does not however deal with Apple loops (only EXS programs).
