Long duration recordings with Nuendo

I'm having problems making continuous recordings over 2 hours with Nuendo. I'm recording 8 to 16 tracks of live performances that are glitching after 1 hour with skips and clicks. Drives are defraged and running udma ultra.

I have no problem making shorter recordings with high track counts, lots of fx etc

Any suggestions?

system:

Intel P4 2.40ghz
XP pro OS
1.50ghz ddr ram
ultra ata drives
Pulsar for routing
Nuendo 3.0 for recording

-Upgrade to 3.2 or 4.1.2
-Check your file format..you might have to use .w64 for excessive filelengths, as regular formats are capped at 2-3gb in size if I'm not mistaken.

HI,
there was an issue with large track counts say 80+ with N4/C4 that got fixed.
however it didnt happen in N3/C3.

your issue i am sure is how old the system is
and as mentioned using wave 64 might help

I always used wavelab for ridiculously long recordings. It will chop the file in whatever size chunks you want. Recorded for 6 1/2 hours one night..

Thanks for the ideas.

I found a SM bus controller issue in device manager. Updated the chipset driver and it went away. Maybe this will help with the long file recording as wel. I will also change to w64 for the next test and hope for the best... very stressfull!

Hmmmm...I have never seen that bug, and I have been using Nuendo 3.x for live location recordings for years. I have done many, many 4 and 5 hour shows at 48k, 48 and 64 channels... no problem. I used standard Broadcast Wave Files.

In the past 6 months did Toby Mac's live DVD, Live and Transported, and the Casting Crowns Alter and The Door live DVD on said rig. Not a single issue.

In testing, I've recorded 200 tracks for 8 hours uninterrrupted with N3. No problems. I don't think the software is the issue here.

As far as Wave64. You only need to use that if you exceed 2GB per file, which happens at about 3.5 hours at 48K/24 bit.

I record mostly at 48k 16 bit.

Most of my recordings are under 3.5 hours, so it's not the w64 issue. Often I stop and start in 40-45 minute chunks when the band takes short breaks. When I start again, it's always in the same project. The very first 45 minutes chunk is always good, but the next 45 minute chunk will be full of glitches that sound like skips or missing bits of data. I changed HD a few weeks ago but it's still happening.

Are you setting up Nuendo in any special way? What are your buffer sizes in the software for instance?

More testing today...

read the post
its was with N4 and C4 NOT N3/C3... this issue is now fixed and was admited by Steiny...

and it required a minimum of 80+ tracks armed for record. EG 2 Madi cards.

the system would record fine but reopening the project would either never open (sit and spin forever) or get an out of memory error
