amundsen. re..basic to advanced midi features. with respect if one is a pc user needing basic and/or advanced midi features for a miniscule price. powertracks (pgmusic.com for demo) is unbeatable imho. huge feature list for 50 buks. no dongles. updates are normally once a year 29 buks. (huge number of user references if u doubt me.) just a brief summary of features. notation editor.(huge feature list.) event editor. piano roll. drum pattern generator built in. tempo mapping. piano and guitar/bass/mandolin/ukelele/banjo fretboard display. (i know of no midi software that provides such extensive midi fretboard displays.) cleaning up guitar midi traks. lead sheet generation. will interpret chords from an imported midi (and AUDIO !!) file. tap tempo. tc helicon built in for generating voc harmonies. dx/vst/vsti/softsynth support. (with the new release i believe u can run 16 softsynths in real time. but of course u need a powerfull pc.) 48 trak audio recording. (if you record as stereo track...96.) (if u had a powerfull enough computer plus the input soundcard facilities you can record as many audio traks as u wish.) guitar tuner built in etc. meter map. simple things like haveing each midi drum type on a seperate trak, instead of all on one track. large numberof midi filtering facilities. SMPTE support. high ppqn support. plus a large included fx suite built in. (even has a ac hum filter and a RTA built in.) auto convert midi to audio. (and audio to midi...works best on monophonic audio material.) just a slew of features,. too much to list. just saying....if someone has little money. at least check it out. never crashes on me. imho the best deal in midi on the market. unless youve used it intimately and deeply like i have its difficult to understand and respect with just a cursory look. but there are lots of lovely little features that will impress if your willingto take the time and look. the devs of this product have always had my respect. ive been a user for years. (years back i had powertracks synced to a tape machine once.) the way i'm working now is powertracks for midi and some audio (and reaper for audio.)

| I have to agree. I composed (TV comms) in PT for a long time and I found it to be very easy to use. There's a key command to switch between edit modes on a midi track. Never had a problem with it. The only reason I switched to Logic was because of the 'brighter' sound and I don't seem to fuss over too much...I just start recording quickly and The stock instruments sound great.
