Anything interesting afoot? Saw some Sonnet G4 upgrades that look quite good. No new PowerMacs for a while eh? Was there a 'big surprise'? |

Pro Desktops are on the way. Just hold on a little longer ![]() Jobs is staggering the new releases so they come along throughout the years.... Firewire 2 is great. But we need the Drives that can handle the throughput don't we.... As for Sonnet.. I was hoping they were going to release more Encore ZIF models above 500mhz as they told me they would, so I'm abit bummed about that... grudge Love the new Powerbook though (17") And Safari has finally enabled me to get Uncle bill off my machines for good Al.

Unfortunately, I don't think you're likely to see any Macs faster than 1.25GHz until Apple introduces their next machine based upon an entirely new CPU type, be that IBM Power4 based, or AMD Hammer based. The 1.25GHz is actually an overclocked 1GHz CPU with higher core voltage and additional cooling, hence the "wind tunnel" design and atypically high fan noise for a Mac on the newest high end machines. I'm betting it's about a 1 year wait for faster Mac CPU speeds. Between now and then I think we'll see quad CPU models to try and bridge the gap for power users. Still, those are some nice laptops they just introduced. Regards, Brian T |

i would really dig a QUADghz machine.... i wonder what the power difference between it and a 4ghz machine would be in reality. just having a second ghz chip does wonders on my processing.
