current faves at the moment...

I have a pair of Distressors that I sometimes link across the mix bus... but more often it's the Thermionic Culture, Culture Vulture... not a compressor, but it smooths the transients, and does a nice compression thing... ITB I'm actually liking The Glue by Cytomic even more so than the Waves SSL Comp... Also ITB is using the Distressors emu in the Liquid Mix...

Been enjoying the RS124 on the master buss, but the occasional crap-out sucks (loud popping, +100dB showing on meters, gain reduction at max for a period of time)

for AU plugins, the relatively new airwindows buttercomp is the best glue comp that i've tried. that's now on all my songs' 2-buss (along with their busscolors plugin).

Apparently you haven't imported any songs over the last 5 years into your DAW lately and taken a look at the waveforms because that's pretty much what mastering engineers do nowadays. Mix waveforms look like test tones. I've wanted to hit them in the face for ruining my mixes - not the other way around.
Or looked on soundcloud Don't often see it in Traktor though.

What settings? Curious, because of the whole gain-staging questions with it.

if anyone is still reading this thread and/or cares...

i've recently been using a combo of plugs...(often in this order on the master channel)

rs-124 very lightly
api 560 eq (i start with the "mastering oldies" setting and adjust to taste - that being said, my preferences happiest moments have included either the "e" (emi/abbey road) or the "n" (germanium) settings......("a" is covered with the mpx plug)
decapitator (usually lightly - settings vary by song/project)
mpx mastertape (i usually start with a subtle setting and go from there depending on what it needs)

i find that these get me to a good place for final mixes....likely leave a little less artistry for mastering...but sometimes that's ok...

i've used the emi eq's as well in the chain when i want an extra bit of tweaking...they're real nice and warm...

all of this being said..i dig old records...and tchad blake's interpretation of that vintage sound....so...that's my point of reference...and my 2 cents...

What settings do you find yourself using on the RS124?

I'd be interested to know as well ... using the RS124 "lightly" isn't all that obvious!

Or

and sometimes, NOTHING at all :-) as it all depends on the situation and style of the music.

Duende Bus Comp

It's the only plug-in I have on my standard mix template.

Really helps get the mix going somewhere quick for me.
