Depends a lot on the hardware you use. Should be all very good tho' you hear a lot that Nuendo 'sounds' great...

max. you dont need to spend an inheritance on multitrack software these days.
all the following are under 100 bucks andexcellent imho.
powertracks,magix music studio,ntrack,multitrackstudio.com,
and traktion. the first two i use heavily and together have enough audio and midi features to boggle your mind.
just try the demoes. and be surprised.

I've used all four, Logic and Samplitude more extensively. To me Samplitude sounds best, but it's not a night an day type thing. Nuendo has a sound, but for open and natural sound, it's Samplitude to me.

Exclamation

Ease of use is also muy importante. Both Sam and Nuendo are quite easy to get into. Illogic has a pretty hefty learning curve. Never seen Pro Tools.

That's the type of question that is able to start WWIII, you know! so get ready...

Anyway, they all sound great if you have great converters, great pres, great mikes, great instruments, great compositions, great players, great singers, great engineers, great producers...you get the picture.

Now there is a subtle difference in the "software" sound of each app and should you ask 3000 of us our opinion in this forum alone as you did, you'd end up getting 3000 different answers.

Sound is very subjective and personal. What sounds good to you doesn't necessary sounds good to someone else. (i.e people love rap, others hate it, people love techno, smooth jazz, others hate it...people love blondes, others brunettes, some both...ok let's not go there.

This is my take: I found that Protools and Logic have a similar sound, that is natural, open and not colored.

Nuendo and Samplitude share IMHO also a similar sound between themselves, but I find that sound to be a little more lightly compressed, perhaps saturated. It sounds to me as if they've hard coded some sort of tape saturation plug in the master stereo out or something. I don't know...What do you guys think?

I like the sound though, don't get me wrong. But it's a little different that Protools and Logic altogether. Not better, but different.

Disclaimer: These are my own observations and opinions!
I see now 3000 peope saying exactly the opposite of what I've said and everything in between. It's fine!

Go with the one that sounds good to you only!

Hope this helps.

For DSP DAW = Paris..Deep , warm , Phatt.

Thank you guys for sharing

I have tried Nuendo and Logic on cheap and expensive cards and they do sound different . IMO Logic is smooth and has more “ relaxed “ sound and different character . Nuendo is a bit more aggressive .

I am not trying to start WW3 but if you listen to other people experience ( and you don’t have money to try all four ) you can save yourself a lot of time .

I do own Paris and agree that it has great sound but software is way out of date and you can’t use vst on AUX . I have tried using Paris via ASIO on Nuendo 2 but it is highly unstable . Also everybody is saying , buy latest AD DA converters still PARIS is 10 years old and still sound better than a lot of latest AD DA .

I would like to hear some more about your oppinion on this . I think a little discussion would be very helpful as there are loads of guys like me who would have great benefit out of this thread .

Thanks again

When playing with the Demos of Samplitude and Sawstudio, Saw was the winner. Actually I thought they both sounded great until I used any of the built in EQ. Saw also uses such a brilliant code, that the CPU load is extremely low. I own Sonar also, and Sonar will take a high CPU hit and drop out FAR FAR before Saw. In fact I have not had a single crash or drop out yet in SAW!!!!

I think this is the longest debate on the subject in a single thread:
