Separate Gigastudio PC ?

HI, I run Sonar 3 Producer edition, and have Reason and Gigastudio 3 running in slave mode as rewire devices. I have a P4 3.0 Ghz pc, 800 system bus, 1 gig OCZ low latency Dual channel DDR400 memmory...... and I have a powercore for dsp plugins. Even with the powercore, my pc is really sluggish..... I was thinking of buying another pc just for my gigastudio, but that would entail buying another (two ) interfaces to join the two PC"s via ADAT. I don't want to do this , if I don't have to. Gigatudio won't run with hyperthreading or dual pc's...or 64 bit processors... Can anyone tell me which processer/memmory setup I should buy in order to run all this stuff simultaneously on my pc ? You think the pentium 4 3.4 ghz extreme edition (with 2 mb cache) would solve my problems ??? Or is there a cheaper alternative ? Thanks, LUke

In my experience, serious GIGA setups almost always end up having to be on seperate comps. I too run Sonar and Giga, and it takes very little doing to have the system lock up if I have them on the same comp. I am very happy now with a dedicated Giga comp.

sonar and giga too ?

thanks Natpub... can you give me any suggestions as to how I''m going to connect that second giga pc to my main sequencer pc ? I have a Lynx AES16 in my sequencer pc, and am thinking of buying an ADAT daugher card for it so I can connect to the giga pc using ADAT. But I'm not sure how to go about getting ADAT out of my giga pc. I was thinking of the RME HDSP9652, which I can output ADAT using s/mux , but this seems pretty expensive for just needing ADAT out. I was also thinking about the ECHO Layla 3G, which would give me a lot of analogue ins and outs, as well as ADAT...but doesn't have s/mux, so I'd have to go out of my giga pc at 48 khz. Gigasampler can operate at up to 96khz..... are you sending digital or analogue out of your gigapc , and what is the best way for me to hook up in your opinion ?? thanks, Luke

Hi Soulspace,
I have 2 Extra Giga PCs running here. The Giga Outputs (Hammerfall 9652 and HDSP 9632) go via ADAT in my Digi 192 Inputs, and appear in Logic as Input Tracks. Works perfect, but I would consider, that you have the RME Wordclock Expansion installed.

You need an extra Midi Interface for the Gigastudio.

Hello,

Forgive my bias, but what about another AES16 in the Giga machine? The new GSIF drivers work well and it's got to be cheaper than the LS-ADAT plus a separate ADAT I/O card.

Just a thought...

why not using HALION? it supports GIGA, doesnt crash so often like GIGA and is a VST..
