Lenovo R61 laptop

Hi,
I'm considering buying a laptop as an addition to my barebone PC which I use as my main audio workstation. This laptop should:

1. Be capable of recording say at most 8 audio tracks simultaniously through my M-Audio FireWire 1814 interface at 24 bit/44.1 kHz.

2. Run the Ivory Pianos in live Gigs reliably (without humming when connected to the power outlet).

so it only should be a cheap mobile extension of my home studio. The mixing will be done on my main workstation. First I considered buying a Dell Inspiron 1525 but then read about the firewire chipset issue and finally changed my mind. Right now the lenovo R61 looks as a good candidate to me:

Lenovo ThinkPad R61 T8100 WXP Pro

Core 2 Duo T8100 2.1 GHz
160 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400 rpm
2 GB / 3 GB (Max) - DDR II SDRAM - 667 MHz - PC2-5300 (1 x 2 GB)
15.4" TFT 1680 x 1050 (WSXGA+)

Do you think this laptop will manage the above tasks? Does it have the Texas Instruments firewire chipset? If not, please post your suggestions.

Best Regards
Waldemar

It should be more than capable, but I'd agree -- would be a good idea to try and find some info on the firewire chipset just to make sure it's TI.

do you think the 5400 rpm drive can handle the live playing of such big libraries as Ivory?

no experience with Lenovo laptops in this forum? Or at least with Ivory and a 5400 rpm drive?

I'd try asking on KvR or perhaps firing an email to Synthogy themselves. I would be very surprised if you encountered any problems with that laptop though.

Well, Synthogy appear to suggest a 7200rpm drive as a minimum, so perhaps it's worth budgeting for a drive upgrade too.

I also own an external S-ATA/USB2.0 Drive with 7200 rpm. Maybe this is an option if the internal drive will not do it...

Does anybody have reliable information of what firewire chipset this notebook has? Lenovo Support cannot tell me
