I posted it in High End, becuase Nuendo is a high end DAW! I think we all should share what "high end" VST plugins are out there and that we use...

I know it sounds strange saying great VST plugins coming from a Pro Tools TDM background, but the world has changed.

The PSP Nitro multimode filter more than anything else. Sort of found a place for itself that's all its own.

Also the PSP and Ohmboyz delays.

i'm not a heavy plug in user as i try and record using the old techniques. but there are a slew of plug ins listed at
kvr-vst.com quite an interesting site.
an interesting free vst plug in that uses sound impulses is SIR
reverb. a lot of people i know are hot on this one.
check out a site called noisevault.com where i understand there are all sorts of impulses for SIR.
particularly as its free. and one called endorphin for mastering thats also free i believe,
some other interesting plug ins are dr jerome schmitt.
hope i spelt that right.
if anyone wants a nice multitrack software host for vst and dx plug ins i recommend they try multitrackstudio.com.
and try the demo. i really like this product a lot and i also like some of its own included effects. it offers so many options in terms of accomodating effects.
another source for plug ins is hitsquad.com. look in their plug in section.
also if anyone wants some nice dx plug ins check out the main recording software i use called powertracks from pgmusic.com.
another interesting product is the free simulanalog.org
this is a research project to model different guitar amplifiers and pedals in software.
all the products ive mentioned are for pc.
hope this helps someone.
ps - maxim digital audio have a number of free plug ins.
there is also something around called echomania which does ping pngs apparently.

VSTs

Couldn't agree more about Blockfish, and Sascha's other plugins too... I'm really into the whole digitalfishphones thing...

Surprised nobody's mentioned the new mayhem stuff from Audio Damage tho... I haven't made a track that didn't involve the Filter Pod in like, well, ages. That thing is just plain nasty, no two ways about it. Yow!

And Waves, obviously been gettin a lot of mileage out of that. And maybe one day I'll pay it off my credit card. Yup. Mmm hmm.

Do you guys think there is much point in having both the UAD-1 and the Waves ren EQ and ren Comp?

How does the ren EQ compare to the Cambridge EQ on the UAD-1?

My favourites are the Sonalksis EQ and compressor.
Just no way that they degrade "well recorded" program
material.
A lot of vst-plugins tend to screw around, even inserted, with
all the knobs to zero.
I once had that experience with Ozone,from Izotope;
just inserted the plugin with all modules off, and it changed
the sound...very strange...
I'm looking forward to URS porting their plugins to the VST-format.
Two things that are still missing for the VST platform is a good tape-emulator and mixbuss-compressor.

re; Cambridge EQ and waves EQ

I'm not sure... but I can tell you this, that the Cambridge EQ ...BLOWS AWAY the EQ that you get in Nuendo. The Cambridge is encredible. If you already have and like the Waves EQ and comp, I would definately use both. I do have lots of Wave stuff too (never messed with the one you mentioned though) but knowing the character of the Waves plugs... I think I'd still go with the Cambridge by UAD. Nothing wrong with Waves... they are just ... different from the UAD plugs. UAD looks awesome, sounds great... and much closer to the real deal. Very "human".

There was a guy on the Nuendo forum recently, that mentioned that he used to work in a studio that had most of the real gear that's in the UAD Studio Pak (includes Cambridge EQ) and he said that the thing he loves about using the UAD plugs, is that he can set them the same way he used to make his settings on the old gear and claims it's identical to the sound. I'm not sure if I would go that far... but they are very, very close. I mean... look what you're getting for the price.... compared to really having to buy the real vintage pieces? You would probably need to spend 30 grand, atleast. But you really need to try them. Can you go to a place that has it loaded in a system? How about a Guitar Center? I think they sell UAD and they have some stuff up and running for demo. Or, look for a Nuendo distributor near your area. They would most likely have the UAD plugs too. Sorry, I can't be of any more help. I just love the UAD plugs and on the Nuendo forum... everyone else seems to think they are a necessity. I am purchasing a 2nd UAD card to allow mine to run with ease. Good Luck! Andy

Hmm.. haven't tried it yet.
I'll give it a whirl.
So far I've been using compressors like Sonalksis, BF Fairchild
on individual tracks only.
Might be a nice glue-tool though.
